Electric Dreams
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
About the adventure
Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? You couldn't point to the moment when the sun went down, the sky just gradually changed from a grey you could see to a darker charcoal that couldn't compete with the neon and headlights. The Los Angeles sprawl feels emptier than ever now; anyone who could pass the physical exams made for the off-world colonies decades ago, and even Tyrell Corp's massive factories shut down after the Nexus-6 and -8 fiascos. Close after that was The Blackout of 2022, when everything digital was lost all at once. The stink of fear soaked into the pavement, into the concrete and glass. And now Replicants are back. Wallace made a new generation, the Nexus-9, that they say can't rebel. But two decades aren't enough to erase a grudge that deep. The Rep-Detect units are back; not officially the same as Blade Runners, but they wear the same faces and carry the same iron. And some of them came out of a factory, not a womb. Maybe you're one of the old generation, who actually had to hunt down a rogue -6. Maybe you're new, and wish this could all work better. Maybe you're a Replicant, hunting and retiring your own. The city fears you. It resents that it needs you. Refuses to accept that you're here to stay. Blade Runner is a neon-noir wonderland of a roleplaying game set in a world of grey skies and blurred morality, where a word can end your life or shake your self image to the core. This will be a short campaign, in which we will take as many sessions as necessary to complete the investigation before us; likely 2-3 sessions. If the group is having a really good time and schedules permit, we may continue for more than one investigation, but this is not mandatory.

About me
My first experience with TTRPGs was two and a half sessions of Rolemaster. If you know that system, you know it's not the greatest starting point for a beginner. Added to that, our GM was trying to run this game while taking care of a newborn and finishing up med school. Despite the rocky start, I was hooked, but I didn't know anyone else at the time who could run a game at all. So I started my own D&D campaign and have been GMing ever since! I run RPGs for the stories, the surprise, and the drama. My goal is always to create an atmosphere where the whole group can explore the stories that interest them. My favorite moments in any game are when things feel cool, cinematic, heartfelt, or badass. That moment when the barbarian leaps through the wall of flame, clothes smoldering, screaming in rage. Or that moment when the Netrunner finally breaks into the top-secret mainframe to loot secrets from the rich and powerful, as a desperate firefight rages around them. But most importantly, the very best moment is when I can tell that the players have forgotten that they're sitting in a chair at a desk, and are having a shared experience that takes them away from their lives and which they'll remember for years. But I've never been satisfied with just a standard D&D campaign or two; I've run games in a dozen or so systems at this point, and I'm always excited to try new ones! I even have experience running custom one- and two-player campaigns, which can be a great way to have a more in-depth, character-driven experience, and also help to alleviate scheduling difficulties. If you're interested in something like that, please feel free to message me or hit the button that says "Book GM," and we can start talking about the specifics!

Colby is an amazing GM! I've so far played in two campaigns of Colby’s, and how he brings the worlds alive is amazing. Colby really gives it his all every session. I look forward to each week to play D&D with the campaign we are in right now. I can’t wait to see where he will take us next. I highly recommend Colby as a GM!
Colby is a great GM. He'll do voices, use theater of the mind and allow players to think outside the box. Do you want to take one monster and hit it with another monster? He'll make a ruling quickly to keep the game flowing. That is a quality of a true GM. He makes sure everyone has fun.
Character creation
Creating your character
I will have a selection of pre-generated characters which anyone can choose from. In addition, if you join far enough in advance of the game, I may be able to meet with you to go through the character generation process together, if you want to take a deeper dive. Character sheets will be stored on Roll20.
No characters have been created at this point!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a microphone, free accounts on Discord and Roll20, and a reasonably quiet environment. Since this is a limited campaign and we won't be taking time for a full session 0, please test your audio equipment in advance so we can jump right into the game!
What Colby brings to the table
I have a selection of pre-generated characters built in Roll20, and each includes areas meant for you to take brief notes about the events in the investigation. All pre-generated characters will have art and tokens established, and if you work things out to create a custom character in advance, we can also arrange artwork for that. Everything necessary to play will be set up in advance on Roll20!

How Colby creates a safe table
Blade Runner is a setting and game that encourages introspection and will challenge what it means to be human, among other things. Content will include Violence, Death, Mental Trauma, Alcohol Use, and Child Death for sure. Police Violence, Prejudice, and cycles of poverty and crime are other themes likely to come up. These are topics not to be taken lightly, so all players need to be prepared to approach the game with compassion, care, and respect. While most of the gameplay will be focused on investigation, it is also a brutally lethal system, where combat is to be avoided, and character death and/or permanent injury are very likely under certain circumstances. I use the following list of Lines & Veils in all games I run, which will always be posted and pinned in the Discord discussion thread for this campaign. Players are encouraged to unilaterally add to this list at any time and with no explanation required: LINES: • Sexual assault/harrassment, Homophobia/sexism/racism or other types of bigotry • Slurs or derogatory language related to these types of bigotry • Real-world politicians and political parties. VEILS: • Harm to children/animals/misc innocents (usually mentioned as background only) • Sexuality (fade to black) • Abuse/emotional manipulation/gaslighting (case-by-case, I'll check with the group in advance) • Torture (fade to black) In addition, you're encouraged to stand up and walk away from the game at any time if you feel uncomfortable. If you can tell us that you're going, that's great, but not mandatory. Finally, if we have a particularly intense session, whether because of a character death, inter-party conflict, or some other reason, I'll encourage the group to stick around after the session for a debriefing, to help process the events of the session.
