About the adventure

Welcome, aspiring mages, to Strixhaven University! But this isn't just any magical academy. Nestled at the very nexus of the multiverse, Strixhaven draws students and faculty from countless planes of existence—from the Forgotten Realms to the bustling streets of Eberron, and even beyond the boundaries of D&D. Here, realities converge, cultures clash, and magic knows no limits. Your journey will span four academic years, evolving from lighthearted campus life to confronting profound mysteries that threaten not just the university but the very fabric of reality itself. You'll enroll in classes, tackle challenging exams, join extracurricular clubs, and take on part-time jobs to earn spending money, all while forging deep bonds with your fellow students and navigating rivalries. Beyond the standard curriculum, this campaign enhances the Strixhaven experience with: The Practical Implementation of Magical Theory: An on-campus, constantly evolving dungeon designed by the five colleges. Test your skills in challenging environments crafted by Quandrix's spatial genius, immerse yourself in Prismari's vibrant (and often dangerous) artistic flair, solve Silverquill's intricate puzzles, navigate Witherbloom's exotic flora and fauna, and uncover ancient lore from Lorehold's vast archives. This dungeon serves as your primary ground for exploration and adventure, filled with creatures and phenomena from across the multiverse. Interdimensional Festivals & Festivities: Take a break from studies with vibrant campus-wide celebrations. Experience cultural traditions from myriad planes, engage in unique competitions, and discover fascinating items from visiting interdimensional merchants. These events are perfect for social interaction and unexpected investigative opportunities. Expanded Crafting Systems: Delve deep into the art of magical creation! You'll have the choice to use the 2024 crafting rules or the detailed Harvesting, Manufacturing, Enchanting, and Cooking systems from Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting. For potion enthusiasts, I'm incorporating the unique Combat, Utility, and Whimsical Potion systems from Obojima, allowing you to brew truly exotic concoctions using ingredients found both on campus and within the dungeon. Your choices matter, both in the classroom and beyond. Will you become a renowned scholar, a master artisan, an intrepid explorer, or a defender of the multiverse? At Strixhaven, your path is yours to forge, and the possibilities are as endless as the realities that converge here.

Character creation

Creating your character

When creating your character for Strixhaven, the possibilities are truly vast! Since Strixhaven exists at the nexus of the multiverse, your character can hail from any D&D setting (Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dragonlance, Ravnica, etc.) or even a non-D&D fictional universe (pending approval). The key is that your character possesses some gift or talent that led them to be scouted by Strixhaven alumni. Here are some key considerations: Origin Story: Where are you from? What was your life like before Strixhaven? This is your chance to get creative! Did you grow up in a high-tech future, a medieval fantasy world, a land of spirits and samurai, or a bustling city where magic is mundane? How did you discover your magical aptitude, and what led you to accept Strixhaven's invitation? Think about how your home plane might influence your character's personality, worldview, and even their approach to magic. Races and Classes: All official D&D 5e races and classes, or third-party books found on Beyond can be used. If you have a homebrew option that you want to use, then please discuss it with me before Session 0 or your first session for approval. As I'll want to ensure it fits the campaign's power level and themes. Consider how your chosen class might reflect your background. For example, a "Warrior" from a highly advanced world might manifest as a Fighter with a technological bent, or a "Scholar" from a distant monastery might be a Lorehold Wizard. Personal Goals & Motivations: Why are you at Strixhaven? Are you seeking knowledge, power, fame, a safe haven, or something else entirely? Do you have personal ties to your home plane that you wish to maintain, or are you eager to embrace your new life at the nexus? Multiversal Quirks: Embrace the unique aspects of your origin! Do you have an accent or slang from your home world? Are you unfamiliar with common Strixhaven customs or magical theories? Do you have a unique item from your home plane? (within reason) Perhaps your character's magic manifests slightly differently due to the magical laws of their home plane. Stats: We will be rolling for stats in Discord unless the party wishes to use a more standardized way of generating ability scores. Starting Equipment: You will begin with starting equipment as per standard for your class, background, and level. We will have a dedicated Session 0 to discuss characters, answer questions, and ensure everyone is excited and prepared for their journey at Strixhaven. I can't wait to see the incredible characters you bring to life!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have free accounts on Roll20, Discord, and D&D Beyond, as well as the Beyond20 extension or similar. Links for Discord, Roll20, and Beyond will be available after joining the campaign. Please make your displayed name across StartPlaying, Discord, and Roll20 the same, so there's as little confusion as possible Example: Character's Name (Username) Make sure you have a functioning microphone and headphones, headset, earbuds, etc, as Discord and speakers tend to create an echo for the other players and have a quiet space to play (within reason), so we don't have distracting background noise during the session. Also, most importantly, bring your favourite character and have a good time!
