Many a mettle will be tested in the upcoming conflict. Including yours. For as is usually the case, destiny deems it so that a band of adventurers will play a pivotal part in thwarting the ambitions of those who threaten the greater balance of the world. About me

Greetings, potential player! I am but a humble Game Master, seeking to play the games that I love with as many folks as possible. I've said in the past that "if I could run infinite games, I would". I adore rpgs - both from a mechanical and narrative perspective. They are pretty much my main passion project at the moment, and I wish to share that passion with all of you!

Character creation

Creating your character

The free Session 0 will provide an opportunity for all of the gathered players to make their characters, as well as broadly discuss any preferences they might have and what type of story people wish to craft together. The initial characters will start at level 1. We will be using a custom rolling method to generate statistics. I will also share all relevant campaign-specific content that will further shape your character options. The character sheets will all be created and stored on the game's roll20 page. I will offer any and all technical support that is necessary during this process, including me making the character sheets and providing character "cheat-sheets", if necessary.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The technical requirements are as follows: - a stable internet connection - an "okay" quality microphone (cameras are optional) - a Discord and a roll20 account (Discord is for audio, roll20 is for rolling, character sheets and maps) In case a player is brand new to the game (as in, no or little to no experience), let me know in advance and I'll make sure to be even more at your disposal.

What GM Anokir (Oto) brings to the table

Maps for combat and exploration shall be provided, as will any further media that might help enhance the experience. The big thing that I'll be bringing to the table is my Rules and Updates document that contains all of my assorted bits of homebrew.

Homebrew rules

There's a few more than this, but here's "the main 10": 1. Drinking a healing potion is a bonus action. Feeding a potion to a willing or unconscious creature is an action. 2. Failed Death Saving Throws linger until you complete a short or long rest. Administering healing magic or a healing potion to a creature while they are at full hit points removes one failed Death Saving Throw that the creature might possess. 3. Custom Encumbrance - A Small or Medium character’s carrying capacity is their Strength score multiplied by 15. However, if they carry a total weight of more than 10 times their Strength score, they are considered encumbered (your speed is halved, and you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls and saving throws that use Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution). 4. A natural 20 on an ability check or a saving throw adds a +5 modifier to the roll, while a natural 1 on an ability check or a saving throw adds a -5 modifier. 5. DM-given Inspiration can be used to re-roll a single d20 roll after it has been made and the result is known. Moreover, if the original roll was made with advantage or disadvantage, the new roll is likewise made with that adjustment. 6. Player versus player activities can only be enacted if there is expressed consent amongst all parties (this includes both more mechanical instances, such as opposed checks and enacting combat, as well as coming into conflict on a more narrative level). 7. Consecutive Rolls - If a player wishes to make the same type of check against the same obstacle in succession (without altering their approach, essentially), they may make the roll at disadvantage. If they make the same check a third time in succession and fail, the DM may present a type of greater negative outcome (ex. the tools that they have been using break) or additional complications (ex. the door they were trying to break jams even further, increasing the DC). 8. Variant Rule - Skills used with different abilities than the standard option (consult the DM; an example would be using Intelligence instead of Wisdom for Medicine) 9. Variant Rule - Feats: all feats from the Player's Handbook, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Xanathar's Guide to Everything are all allowed, but certain feats have been altered (listed later in the document); additionally, custom feats are available (also listed in the document). 10. Custom Ability Scores Generation Method* *to be elaborated upon with further discussion, as well as during Session 0

Safety

How GM Anokir (Oto) creates a safe table

As the main theme of this campaign is war, people can expect a lot of combat scenarios. However, that is not to say that there won't be more to the game than hack-n-slash. Character bonds, social interactions, exploration... All of these will be pivotal to shaping a meaningful game environment, and hopefully they will motivate you to truly care in taking part in the eventual war effort. I will personally conduct a 1-on-1 "interview" with each player sometime before Session 0, in which you are encouraged to share any immediately pressing questions or concerns you might have, such as any hard lines or grey veils in regards to particular content.
