Curse of Strahd: Through the Domains of Dread

Mist hangs thick in the air, turning the trees around you into gray ghosts. You notice the trees aren't the same that surrounded you the night before.

About the adventure

Under raging storm clouds, the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze down toward the village of Barovia. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came—all according to his plan. A lightning flash rips through the darkness, but Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind fills the midnight air. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.

About me

First and foremost, I am a writer, reader, and storyteller by trade and at heart. I am a seasoned GM who has been playing since middle school in 1998 with D&D 3e. I have been DMing since 2000 and have been DMing D&D 5e specifically since 2018. I have a penchant for new players as I am a fair and reasonable DM. I'm patient and willing to teach and allow others to learn to play in all aspects, whether it's the dynamics of combat or growth with roleplaying. Come meet some of my current and past players on my Discord Server. Message me for the link. I have been building my homebrew world of Grakloros since 2010. I have run many campaigns in this world. I have maps created in Campaign Cartographer 3+ and a YouTube channel dedicated to the lore of my world. I have two campaign settings featuring my world: The God's Reach setting where my One-Shot games takes place, and the Bones and Barbarians setting that I GM for my crew on Twitch on Thursdays from 7-9pm EST. We have concluded season 2! Announcements for Season 3 will be coming around August 2024. I am excited to introduce B&B as I have been developing it for many years. My Discord Server is open to any and all past and present players. I host players from all across the US, Europe, and Australia. Come and join what I like to call "my extended D&D family." LGBTQ+ Friendly Neurodivergent Friendly New Player Friendly Discount Programs!!!!! - A very underused option. I offer a few: A) The Refer a Friend Program - easy stuff, you get a friend of yours to join a game and when they play their 4th paid session, you get 4 weeks free! That's 4 full weeks of unlimited games, meaning that within those 4 weeks you can try out any game I'm running (open seats permitting) for FREE! B) The Family Discount - want your spouse, significant other, mom, dad, sibling, or cousin to play with you? Great! What better way to get grandmama to learn DND than to split the cost between you. It functions like a "buy one-get one free" or "two at half-price" deal. C) NEW!!! The Try a Second Game Half Off Deal - a lot of Pro GM's offer this and I'm adding it to my list. Some stipulations, As long as you've played 4 paid games and you join a second game, that game will be half of its original price. This is a 2 month trial period deal. After those 2 months, the price goes back to it's original starting price. If you enjoy the game, I would hope you would find it worthy to continue. However, if you didn't like it, at least it didn't break the bank

Character creation

Creating your character

The current party

Curse of Strahd began by piggybacking on the heals of House of Lament (from Van Richton's Guide to Ravenloft), where the original party was first introduced to one of the many Domains of Dread. The party has recently arrived in the village of Barovia where they were introduced to the unusual ways of the peoples of this valley and their prince, the one the people call The Devil Strahd. There they met the son of the village's late burgomaster, Ismark Kolyanovich, who gave the team their first quest: escort his sister Ireena to the village of Vallaki in the heart of the Valley of Barovia. Ireena had been already bitten twice by the Devil Strahd and Ismark needs her brought somewhere she can be safe from the vampire's power. She wouldn't leave, however, until their father's remains were brought to the local church and interred on the hollowed grounds. At the church they met Father Donovich praying by the alter in the church's ransacked chapel as a voice from below called out "Father, I'm starving!" F. Donovich explained that his son, who had accompanied a wizard and many other townsfolk and stormed the gates of Ravenloft a year ago had in fact returned, albeit as a vampire spawn. F. Donovich pleaded with the party to not kill his son, but to find a way to cure him. The group acquiesced, and F. Donovich agreed to preside over the burial of Burgomaster Kolyan Indirovich in the early hours of that morning. Along the way they encountered some eerie sights, like an old woman named Morgantha taking a child as payment for her pastries, the visage of Sabrina hanging from a crossroads gallows, and the decrepit windmill known to the locals as 'Old Bonegrinder'. The also encountered a Vistani camp at the Tser Pool, where, in the mid morning hours, were regaled with wine and a story of a wizard that battled Strahd before perishing by the vampire's hand. They also met Madam Eva, the camp's maddened elder Vistana. She read the group's fortune as relating to Strahd, giving them cryptic clues as to how to rid Barovia of the vampire and end his curse on the land. After Arriving in the walled village of Vallaki, the group sought out the village burgomaster, Baron Vargas Vallakovich. At his mansion they entreated him to give aid and shelter to Ireena to which he agreed before giving the party a quest of his own: investigate the disappearances of two staff members, the butler, and the Baroness' lady-in-waiting. With that, our heroes spent their first night in Barovia in the safety of the burgomaster's mansion. New heroes will start off at level 3, using point buy for ability scores, standard starting equipment or gold, and 1 common magic item. Current party members include: PCs: Vaelok Skyroot, a male goliath wildfire druid; Virtuoso, a male human devotion paladin; Aurelia, a female elf dead three rogue PC sidekicks: Dr Greymourn, a female human/reborn college of spirits bard; Sabrina Hafthor, a female dwarf path of the zealot barbarian; Lune, a female tiefling aberrant mind sorcerer
