About the adventure
Welcome to the shattered city of Lumen, once the shining heart of Elyria, now a crumbling ruin bathed in arcane fallout. After the fall of the Matriarchal Order and the cataclysm unleashed by the Sorcerer Queen of Drakkenheim, the city lies broken. Sacred cathedrals lie in rubble, their foundations split by Disjunction Bombs and riddled with glowing veins of delirium—a crystal of immense arcane power and maddening corruption. Above it all, haze-storms churn with orange and violet lightning, mutating those who linger too long. This is a game of grim survival, eldritch horror, and treasure-hunting peril, using the rules-light, old-school-inspired Shadowdark RPG. Adventurers—scavengers, rebels, warlocks, and sellswords—descend into the depths of Nox, ancient dungeons unearthed by the city's destruction, where monsters born of magic and forgotten evils stir once more. Powerful relics lie buried in the dark, but so do secrets some factions would kill to control. Above ground, the ruins of Lumen are a powder keg. The Silver Order, once a righteous force, is bent to the will of the Queen's puppet Governor. Those still loyal to the Matriarchs gather in secret while mercenary guilds, and arcane cults pursue their own agendas. You may pick a side—or play them all against each other. Or maybe you're here for something simpler: gold, power, and glory. This game is best for players who enjoy a dark, dangerous sandbox, where torchlight is fleeting, magic is wild and unreliable, and choices have weight and consequence. It’s lethal, fast-paced, and player-driven—with plenty of room for creative problem-solving, faction intrigue, and thrilling dungeon crawls into the unknown.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Been playing d&d for a bout 5 years, DM'ing for 4. I've run a handful of campaigns and lots of one shots. I have a very solid grasp of the rules (though not perfect) and tend to put a lot of effort into finding good maps, npc art, etc. I try to run games with a good balance of RP and combat. Everyone should have a good time, so I don't tolerate any OOC 'isms (race/sex/etc etc) or malicious/non-consensual PVP type actions.

My foundry macro will roll your stats. 2. Pick a Class/Ancestry/Name 3. Roll for your level 1 talent 4. Roll your background 5. Roll your gold and select your gear.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you really need is discord for signing up for sessions & voice chat. And of course a browser to access my Foundry VTT server. If you aren't familiar with Shadowdark RPG, you might want to do some skimming of the rules (or watch some youtube videos). You can get the Quickstart Guide for free at https://www.thearcanelibrary.com/products/shadowdark-rpg-quickstart-set-pdf www.shadowdarklings.net has a character builder you can mess around with to get familiar with creating characters. Reach out to me if you need any help or have any questions.
What Adam brings to the table
Expect a fast-paced, high-stakes game where every torch counts and every decision could be your last. Shadowdark thrives on momentum, and so do I—no 10-minute turns, no dragging combat, just gritty action and tense choices. Most combat is run theater-of-the-mind style to keep things fluid and immersive, but I do use maps for dungeon exploration and key locations to help anchor the world visually. I aim to create a world where player choice truly matters. Your actions will shape the story, shift faction power, and awaken dangers—or allies—you didn’t expect. I reward clever thinking, bold risks, and immersive roleplay, but I also keep things grounded. If something feels like a stretch or a repeated abuse of the mechanics, I won't hesitate to shut it down. My GM style leans into player agency, cinematic moments, and emergent storytelling. I use character voices, ambient music, and sensory description to bring the world to life—but the heart of the story will always be what you bring to the table.
Homebrew rules
Max HP at level one. Dwarf bonus HP increased to 4 from 2. Halflings get a luck-based ancestry bonus instead of invisibility. My luck rules are sort of halfway between standard and pulp mode. Details covered in session 0 or whenever someone joins.
