About the adventure

🌩️ When the thunder rolls from Heaven 🌊 And the river flows to flood 🔥 The Devil prowls the levee 🩸 Selling bargains paid in blood - Walk the boundary between sun and shadow along the Mississippi River - Learn the dark secrets hidden under the veneer of public society - Grow in power, wealth, and influence via dangerous deals with ominous forces What if our world's history had been lived by creatures from your favorite fantasy stories? Where might their choices and desires have taken them a century ago? The levees and bayous of the southern Mississippi have seen more than their share of dark magic and foul deeds. Flat water hides horrors both modern and ancient just beneath the surface. Each town and village and parish conceals secrets aplenty, and the people who walk the streets might pay any price to keep their history out of the light. Whether you're a spirit-touched hunter, a zealot of one of the Lesser Gods, an arcane dealmaker for the political machine, or a hidden half-monster struggling to survive, someone will find a use for you and your talents -- and they might even offer what you need most in exchange.

About me

I've been running games for twenty-odd years now and enjoy every minute of it! I run narrative-heavy, character-focused adventures in almost any setting. My games are safe, inclusive, intersectional, and tend toward homebrew storylines in dynamic worlds. I love taking players on an emotionally compelling journey that gives them a chance to affect the world their characters inhabit. I always enjoy having people contribute to an ongoing narrative as we build a story together.

Character creation

Creating your character

2024 5th edition rules will be the default for this game, and character concepts and party composition will be discussed on Discord prior to Session 0 as part of the preparation. The GM can assist with the character creation process as needed. Characters will begin at level 2 and use the point-buy or standard array method during creation. Players can either use the Beyond20 extension to use a D&DBeyond character sheet for gameplay, or build their character in the Roll20 game. If unofficial/homebrew mechanics are prevalent for a character, the second option is strongly recommended.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Webcam and mic will both be required and players are encouraged to begin familiarizing themselves with the rules of play prior to Session 0. All players are required to play on-camera for safety purposes to allow for real-time emotional evaluation and use of safety signals, but sessions are neither recorded nor streamed. The game will be fully online and physical dice will not be used. All players will need an active free Roll20 account to access the game and to create their character sheets there. Players will also need to provide some sort of character art for their character token on the battlemap.

What Jack G. brings to the table

Access to the Roll20 VTT, a D&DBeyond campaign entry, and all the other ingredients of an immersive narrative will be provided. Digital resources like maps and tokens will be available for gameplay. I also offer a Discord text channel to facilitate group communications in addition to the video chat for game sessions!

Safety

How Jack G. creates a safe table

A Content & Consent Survey will be provided and must be completed before Session 0. Every game will have a break partway through and a debrief sequence to conclude. Players can expect a game with somewhat streamlined combat and plenty of social twists and turns. I utilize milestone experience at narratively-thematic moments for the players.
