The Adventurer's Journal - The House Spider
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot
About the adventure
Maid Mary Miggleswood has come to you, brave and daring of the members of the Adventuring Guild, to save her from…a house spider? But — I mean, she says it’s big! Like, really big! And she’s terrified of it! Dare you venture to her cottage on the outskirts of the woods and…I dunno, do the paper-and-glass trick? Just get rid of it! She’s begging you! The House Spider is a Level 3 adventure with mild threat and some levels of crude humour. ----------- The Adventurer's Journal is a series of a one-shots taking place in the town of Afordir Green, where magic, monsters, and mystery lurks behind every whimsical corner. Though in this shared location, all sessions are all completely standalone. Drop in and out as you please, take which quests you fancy, and enjoy the journey with your fellow adventurers. Good for those adventures who are dipping their toes into DnD - or for the experienced adventurers that want to a chill evening.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
The Adventurer's Journal is a set of episodic one-shots set in the same village of Arfordir Green, where many a wonderous, magical, and monstrous shenanigans unfurl. Each episode is self-contained, with no necessity to have played in previous adventures there before. However, if you do become familiar with the community and the map, you may benefit from using the contacts you've made to aid in your tasks. The House Spider is the first adventure in Arfordir Green, so we're starting truly fresh!

How to prepare
Please be ready with a working webcam and microphone to play, with your character sheet ready! Either digital or physical, as long as you have something to refer to when rolling dice. If you have character art (illustrated? on HeroForge?) shoot it my way, and I'll get a token sorted for you! A guy and a will to have fun is all I ask for! Any questions, feel free to hit me up!
What I provide
Good times, a fair bit of silliness, and an adventure to stick your teeth into. No strict rules lawyering here - I want to make sure you're having fun, and not reading the minutia of the rules. My stories look into mysteries, with chances for you to look around locations and hunt for clues, with challenging combat (but not enough to rake you over the coals). With digital maps, tokens, ambient noise, and what I have been promised are truly horrible monster noises (pray for my vocals chords), I do my best to ensure you're here to have the best time playing make believe as you can.
Gameplay details
The gameplay is in your hands, here! With a ease in and easy out before and after gameplay, we'll have a chance to settle in before getting into the action. On registering (as soon as I can) I'll shoot you across a RPG Consent checklist. You can mark which pieces of content are a hard line for you, and I'll be sure to accomodate. I have a couple of these myself, which I'll go over as we ease in to our introductions during the session. We'll have a break half-way through the adventure - a good old intermission - for you to take a breath, get a drink, so what you need. My Open Door policy also means you're able to pop out whenever you need to, whether that's for a breather, or just to pop to the loo. Obviously you can do that. You're not a prisoner.

How will character creation work
Please bring a Level 3 character to play. Pre-gens will be prepared in case you want one, but it's always best to have fun with your own guy! Roll Standard Array. Any published material from Wizards of the Coast - no homebrew please! As this is a one-shot, we won't have time to explore tragic backstories, go on missions of vengeance, or quest to break spiteful pacts from magical patrons. The characters that work best in these self-contained adventures don't rely too heavy on backstory. If you have a deep lore for your character, that's great! ...Just don't expect it to be delved into deeply here.
