About the adventure

What begins as a simple job—clearing out a rat infestation in a local cellar—quickly spirals into something far more sinister. As the party descends into the darkness, they uncover a forgotten passage leading into the buried foundations of an ancient wizard's tower. Twisting halls, magical traps, and the remnants of arcane experiments await those brave (or foolish) enough to explore. What secrets lie beneath the surface—and why have the rats become so unnaturally aggressive? Perfect for 1st–3rd level characters, this one-shot blends lighthearted beginnings with escalating mystery, dungeon exploration, and arcane intrigue.

About me

As a player, I enjoy diving deep into my characters and exploring the rich worlds we create together. . My true love is DMing. My approach is all about making the game just as much of an adventure for me as it is for you, the players, and my philosophy is simple: no matter the level of experience at the table, the most important thing is that everyone has fun. I believe that the story comes alive through our shared experience, and every twist and turn of the campaign is something we’re all discovering together. Guiding a group through epic quests, intricate puzzles, and unexpected challenges is what fuels my creativity. Whether it's introducing newcomers to the game or running campaigns for more experienced groups, I always aim to create an atmosphere where players feel engaged and excited about the adventure ahead. My other true love is being able to voice NPCs, creatures, and even the environment, bringing a deeper level of immersion and excitement to the experience. It’s all about creating memorable moments that draw everyone into the adventure. For me, the heart of D&D isn’t just about rolling dice or defeating monsters—it’s about storytelling, camaraderie, and creating memories that last long after the game ends.

Character creation

Creating your character

For this one-shot, we’ll be using character options from the 2014 Player’s Handbook only. All characters will start at Level 1, using the Standard Array for ability scores (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). Players are welcome to create their characters ahead of time if they prefer, but it’s absolutely not required—we’ll set aside time at the beginning of the session for anyone who wants help building their character during the game. Backstories are encouraged but optional. If you do choose to write one, please keep it short and focused—just enough to give your character some personality and a reason to be crawling into a rat-infested cellar. You're also welcome to bring your own token image for use in our virtual tabletop. If you have an image but no token, just send it to me—I’ll happily create one for you. Let me know ahead of time which platform you’d like to use: I support Discord, Roll20, Foundry VTT, and D&D Beyond.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players are required to have a microphone for this One-Shot. Players will require an account on Roll 20, at minimum. It is preferred that players have a DND Beyond account for simplified character creation.

What GM Maestro brings to the table

As your Dungeon Master, I aim to create a session that's immersive, engaging, and above all—fun. I bring NPCs to life with distinct voices and personalities, helping the world feel vivid and dynamic. Expect quirky townsfolk, sinister foes, and maybe the occasional rat with a surprising accent. I run the game with the Rules as Written as a solid foundation, ensuring consistency and fairness. That said, I'm a firm believer in the Rule of Cool—if it makes the story better or gets the table excited, I'm all for bending the rules to keep the energy high. To support a smooth and flexible play experience, I use Discord for voice, Roll20 and Foundry VTT for maps and visuals, and D&D Beyond for character sheets and game mechanics. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or brand new to the game, my goal is to provide a welcoming, story-driven session that keeps everyone coming back for more.

Homebrew rules

When making rolls if you roll low I allow you to make a Fey deal where you are allowed to reroll and you use the new number but you also roll a d100 and I'll tell you what your stipulation is for rerolling. I do give inspirations if I see it fit to the moment. Those can be used whenever you have to roll, at your discretion. If I remember I'll remind the party as well if they have any.
