About the adventure

[FREE SESSION 0] [DISCOUNTS FOR GROUPS OF 5-6] Cauldron -- a city in the mouth of a slumbering volcano. Far to the south of the great nations of Greyhawk, it stands above the Amedio jungles. This city is no place for the timid, but it may be a group of fledgling adventurers that save it from the chains of hell's asylum... SHACKLED CITY is a classic Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e campaign that takes players from the humble origins of level 1 all the way to level 20 over the course of 12 adventures. Taste the terrifying power of an edition infamous for its outrageous power scaling -- and enjoy a campaign that actually goes to level 20! Written by Christopher Perkins himself (among other creators), this adventure is ideal for newcomers as well as veterans of the hobby. It goes from back alleys to the underdark, across the jungles and into the depths of the lower planes. Urban intrigue, classic dungeon crawls and a couple of dragons round out this quintessential campaign path.

About me

Hello! My name is Joseph, but online I go by TormentedByGnomes (TBG). I'm a dungeon master for 23 years who loves the game, loves introducing new people to the game, and loves going off the deep-end of the hobby with experienced folks just as much. I'm the DM and producer for Casters & Castles, an actual play channel featuring esports casters & commentators playing D&D and other tabletop RPGs. If you want an idea of what I'm like as a DM, check out our YouTube Channel. I've done it all, from intimate games that heavily involve the characters and their backstories, to sweeping epic adventures to save the world, to webs of political intrigue and kingdom building, to wide-open sandboxes that don't CARE if you just wandered into a high level zone and you're only level 2. Join me for a gaming experience that will always prioritize the safety and well being of the people at the table, without compromising the immersion and excitement of the world your characters experience.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session 0, we will all create characters together using the classic dice method (Roll 4d6, drop lowest). Characters will start out at level 1. You can use any official 3.5e D&D race, class, and other rules. You don't need to read or own any rulebooks before starting, I can teach you as we play.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have a microphone, a discord account (free) and a roll20 account (free). Character creation and rules discussion will occur during Session 0.

What Joseph brings to the table

I'll provide all the maps, player tokens, music, sound effects, lore and more! I have an extensive collection of digital books and content to use for this adventure. I use Voicemod for character voices and special effects. While I will stick to the rules for the most part, I also reward and enjoy player creativity and contributions.

How Joseph creates a safe table

During session 0, each player will detail their lines (content they don't want in the campaign at all) and veils (content they don't want explored in detail). During each session, you will have access to the X CARD, a button you can press to let the DM know that you need to end or change the current scene. You may press this button at any time and I will check in with you after the session to make sure you're ok.
