About the adventure

"In a closed society where everyone is guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity." — Hunter S. Thompson A heist with as many solutions as you can concoct. You will need to improvise as the situation rapidly changes around you! Can you secure the score and escape without attracting too much attention? Or will you make a big scene and fight your way out of the mess you created? The choice is yours! PREMISE Lord Martin Barrister is throwing a large party to impress his fellow nobles with a display of the wealth his family has collected over the years. His prized possession is a magical silver raven figurine that he confiscated several years ago from another noble, Martas Loyalar, taking advantage of Loyalar’s financial hardship. Normally under lock and key, the raven will be on display during the party. A fixer contacts the heroes with a simple mission: steal the figurine during the party. Your can plan any of several ways to steal the statute. Success, however, will surely incur the anger of Lord Barrister and pursuit by his agents.

About me

Heya, I’m Thomas! A lifelong storyteller with a flair for the dramatic, I love collaboratively bringing worlds and narratives to life in a great number of systems. My specialty has always been the crafting of immersive experiences where players aren't just witnesses to the story, but are foundational to the direction the world and narrative take. As a composer for film and TV, I bring the same interweaving of artistic and technological techniques to the games I run/facilitate. Visually, that takes the form of animated maps and splash screens, dynamic lighting and particle effects, and detailed, animated tokens. Sonically, I blend adaptive and dynamic environmental ambience with soundtracks (both subtle and striking) to emphasize the mood, be it combat, exploration, intrigue, or downtime. I strive to bring a presence and personality to every NPC—villain or ally—to make them feel multi-dimensional and truly alive. The end result is an experience that is visceral and personal, with the character's actions showing a real and tangible effect on the world around them. I am deeply inspired by the epic character arcs of shows like Critical Role, but will happily deliver lighthearted fun like Dimension 20 or the Adventure Zone depending on the campaign and the table's preferences. One of my favorite things about this hobby is that so many wonderful experiences fit under the TTRPG umbrella, so reach out and tell me what you are looking for. Chances are we can build it together.

Character creation

Creating your character

If players want to work with me directly on character creation for this one-shot, because they want guidance, ideas, or are newer to D&D 5E 2024, I will happily make time for them. If multiple players requests this, we can spend the first hour of our session making sure everyone knows how their characters work, and how Foundry operates. If you would like to roll up your character in advance, use the following information: RULESET — D&D 5th Edition 2024 ABILITY SCORES — Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) LEVEL — 3rd MAGIC ITEM — 1 Common Item MULTICLASSING — Okay APPROVED BOOKS — All official 5e content (2014 & 2024). Published 3rd party content from a reputable publisher may be approved by request only before the game. NOTE — If you are combing a 2014 species with a 2024 background, you only get to increase abilities scores once, not twice. For this reason it is recommended that your species/background be from the same ruleset.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Webcam preferred. Mic required. Please have Discord downloaded and an account set up before the session. Making your character in advanced is recommended so we can spend a shorter time making sure everyone is ready before getting to the action, but if you need help reach out. I want this to be accessible to all experience levels.

What Thomas Thoreau brings to the table

Foundry VTT with animated maps, lighting and particle effects, evocative music, and immersive soundscapes. Players can host their character information through Foundry directly, where I have all official 5e (2014 & 2024) content, as well as a number of 3rd party content, with the ability to import directly from D&D Beyond, or they can track their character using other digital/physical ways if they prefer.

Safety

How Thomas Thoreau creates a safe table

We will start with a quick discussion of expectations, tone, genre. Afterwards, we will discuss the lines and veils for my table and those of each individual player. We will end with a discussion of how to use X/N/O cards, before jumping into the fun!
