About the adventure
One year ago, the Renatus system faced a threat the multiverse feared. The Voidflame, which burns away even light, sound, and fundamental forces, had been locked away by the old gods under assumption that it had been involved in the Adversity; a cataclysmic event that collapsed the once-galaxy into a single system. Upon the Voidflame's defeat, the quarantine placed on the system by forces outside it was lifted, and faster-than-light travel is now permitted. The Adversity and the difficulties following it have brought the people of multiple planes within the system together, which can be seen in the quick completion of a new and fantastic project: The Hearthmaker. This massive colony ship houses hundreds, and is set to make a 25-year journey to the nearest galaxy, with the goal of finding habitable ground and setting up a network of teleportation circles to expand Renatus' horizons. You are a member of this expedition. But you have woken up early. 10 years after leaving Renatus, you are unnaturally awoken by the Shipmind Lenore II. His hold on the ship has been taken, some of the crew is presumed dead, and much of it is still asleep. Something has stowed away on the journey. You must take control of the systems back for Lenore II, but basic survival may be difficult enough...

Meet the Game Master
About me
Since my days in middle school, I've had a love for taking a story idea and following it to see where it goes. The long story short is that when I discovered tabletop role playing games several years ago, it quickly became my favourite hobby. Not only could I provide plot threads and say "What if," but I could do so outside of an echo chamber. It's a special experience, moulding a story with others. Aside from that, I've loved strategy for a long time, so providing players with combat encounters that make them think is a strong second love. My ideal story is one that sits at the point where various emotions collide. A combat fought in defense of a town means more when we've seen what peace looks like. A joke told is more fulfilling when it is the hidden sweetness in the spice of drama. My favourite stories are those that don't focus on comedy or the serious, but use them to strengthen each other; much as each player at the table can build on interactions to create a fuller experience.

Creating your character
The characters will start at level five, and we will discuss character creation during the free session 0. Feel free to come to the table with an idea in mind, or even a fully created character, but know that it isn't a requirement. Generally I stick to published material, but reputable third party content is allowed, with approval. Homebrew content is on the table with approval, but I ask that you bring it up only if it's because you're trying to do something specific that isn't possible without it.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
I use a combination of Discord for voice chat (so make sure to have that installed, and have a working microphone) and Foundry VTT for all the rest. For those not familiar; Foundry requires no downloads, it is run through the browser. Part of session 0 will be an introduction to Foundry. An intermediate level of experience is recommended for this campaign; meaning you have played at least one character through several levels and are decently familiar with the rules. This campaign will start from level five, and will include both tactical aspects such as rest and resource management, and some unique mechanics that may be difficult for a beginner to grasp.
What Ben brings to the table
Foundry VTT will handle things like character sheets and dice rolls. I have an expanding library of resources on Foundry including tokens and animated spell effects. For those familiar with Foundry: Let me know if there are any modules you've seen used that you would like for our game. I mainly cultivate atmosphere and help players get into the scene through the use of voices and descriptions. Generally I stick to rules as written where applicable, but there is definitely room for doing things that aren't strictly listed within the rules for 5e if the moment calls for it.

How Ben creates a safe table
The free session 0 will be for setting establishment as well as character building. We will also go over metagame things like lines and veils. I will foster an open environment where you can do what you need to do for your health. If you gotta walk away and don't want to explain why, that's fine. If you want to share a detailed list of things that you don't want approached as well as *why*, it's up to you. Be as private or as public with what you're comfortable with. Breaks will be placed somewhere in the middle of sessions, but of course feel free to step away if you need to for whatever reason, biological or mental. As for the game itself, I run a fairly even mix of combat and roleplay. Exact ratios will vary depending on things like what the party decides to do. I also run a pretty even split between whimsical and serious. Generally the plot itself will be serious but individual interactions can counterbalance that.
