About the adventure
Drakkenheim is no more... An eldritch storm of falling stars devastated the city on that woeful eve, leaving behind a meteorite that would have lasting effects. Fifteen years later, Drakkenheim is a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by otherworldly magic and haunted by hideous monsters. Fantastic wealth, lost knowledge, and powerful artifacts lie ready for the taking by adventurers brave or foolish enough to venture into the ruins. However, even those who survive the dangers of Drakkenheim may not return unmarked by its terrors! Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a fantastic adventure set in a gothic renaissance ruined city. Characters embark on dangerous expeditions into monster-filled ruins, haunted streets, decrepit gardens, shattered mage towers, baroque cathedrals, and ancient castles to plunder treasure and solve mysteries. Five rival factions clash over the ruins of Drakkenheim. A tangled web of secrets, subterfuge, and sabotage awaits when the factions’ opposing objectives and your characters’ personal goals come into conflict! Beyond fierce warriors dispatched by the factions, all manner of otherworldly horrors inhabit Drakkenheim. Characters battle undead husks, predatory beasts, mutated monstrosities, and terrifying abominations produced by the mysterious meteor. In this campaign, the player characters are the heart of the story. Their choices, conflicts, and personal goals could decide the fate of Drakkenheim, if they survive!

About me
Hey! My name is Oscar and I’ve been playing D&D since 2020, primarily as a forever DM. I fell in love with the game during my very first encounter—a one-shot adventure a friend ran where we were the heroes who rallied a town to fight off some cultists—and I’ve been hooked ever since. My favorite part of D&D is collaborating with everyone to tell a unique story that makes the adventure unforgettable. I want to be part of even more stories and help create those moments we all cherish from our favorite games. I believe communication is key to making our experience enjoyable, which is why a Session 0 is important to me. I like to establish tone, expectations, campaign pace, do’s and don’ts, boundaries, and more before our game starts so we're all on the same page. I also like to do 1 on 1s and group check ins to make sure we are continually meeting those expectations. I steer clear of discussions about real-world religion and/or politics and have a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech or discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other personal traits. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and free to enjoy D&D the way that you want to play. So, what do you say? Wanna play?

Creating your character
Character creation will begin during Session 0. We'll be using the new 2024 rules along with the species options presented in Monsters of the Multiverse. Players can use Standard Array or Point Buy. I will have everything available to read on DDB for this adventure but characters will be created in Foundry.
Session 0 and Session 1 are FREE! Currently the party is formed of a Barbarian, a Sorcerer, and an Apothecary. The Apothecary is a new class designed by the creators of this setting. They are medical experts that dabble in occult practices!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Definitely make sure you have a working mic. I prefer everyone to be on camera as being able to see you helps with engagement but I understand not everyone can and not everyone wants to, so its not a hard requirement. You will also need to create a Forge account if you do not already have one (https://forge-vtt.com/) as that is where I host Foundry. I find that Forge/Foundry works better on Chrome or Firefox. You will also need a Discord account. Before Session 0, I recommend looking over the 2024 rules if you have not had the opportunity to do so.
What Oscar brings to the table
Session 0 and our first actual play session will be FREE. We'll be using the 2024 ruleset and I own everything we will need for this adventure on D&D Beyond and will share it with you so you will have a chance to read through everything. For this adventure we will be sticking with 2024 rules only, with the exception being the inclusion of the species options found in Monsters of the Multiverse. I own the Dungeons of Drakkenheim book on D&D Beyond and the module for Foundry so we will have all the relevant handouts and maps. I also have a good bit of automation set up in Foundry for convenience and ease of use. Although all the content will be there on DDB for you to read, we'll be using Foundry for character creation and management. Running adventures like this, I like to lean RAI/RAW. I like ROC and I'm definitely open to it at the table but it has to be right time, right place, and it has to make sense. Remember: You can certainly try!

How Oscar creates a safe table
Breaks will occur roughly halfway through sessions and as needed if the situations arise. For debriefing, at the end of each session I'll go over and make sure everyone is still feeling good and if anyone wants to discuss, we can as a group or individually. I'll be using some of the new documents in the 2024 DMG to help with Lines and Veils and each of those can be filled out privately. We will discuss and identify the topics that are addressed but if you are not comfortable sharing, we can leave who identified those private. For safety cards, I will have private channels on Discord that you can either message me directly in before/during/after session, or feel free to speak out during the call. During session 0, we will go over introductions, expectations between all of us (in and out of game), the basic plot of the campaign, discuss the elements of what gameplay will look like, what you can expect as the campaign goes on, leveling progression, character options, a basic foundry tutorial if needed, etc. You don't have to show up with a character ready to go nor do you have to complete yours during Session 0, however when its concluded you should have an idea of who or what you want to play. Before the campaign starts, I will have a 1-1 to help create your character on Foundry and make sure you have everything so you will be ready to go for the first session!
