About the adventure

Trapped in a land where the sun no longer rises, you and your allies are pulled into the mists of Barovia—a cursed domain ruled by a tyrant too cruel for death to claim. At the heart of this haunted realm stands Castle Ravenloft, home to the vampire Strahd von Zarovich, whose gaze follows your every move. Explore crumbling villages, cursed forests, and ancient ruins as you uncover the tragic history of Barovia and its broken people. Battle horrific monsters, unearth forgotten relics, and face moral dilemmas that test more than just your sword arm. Will you rally the scattered remnants of resistance, or become just another lost soul in Strahd’s collection? Forge alliances with witches, werewolves, and ghostly seers. Delve into grim dungeons, shatter undead legions, and challenge the devil himself in a final battle that may shape the fate of an entire world. Every choice you make echoes in the dark—and not everyone will survive. This game is for players who love rich storytelling, difficult choices, and the thrill of surviving against impossible odds. Whether you’re new to D&D or a veteran adventurer, you’ll find yourself in a tale soaked in shadow, sorrow, and the smallest sparks of hope.

The current party

Biweekly Campaign! | Party has just received their card reading letting them know of secret and powerful tools that they can use to defeat Strahd. Now they are off to a town that is rumored to be safer, but they must pass dangerous trials on the road to such safety! Current Level 4 Party Composition: Tiefling Rogue: Swashbuckler, , Human Bard: College of Spirits, Human Cleric: Death Domain, YOU?!?! ⭐ What to Look Forward To: šŸŒ«ļø A Living, Breathing Nightmare: Barovia is not just a place, it’s a prison. The land groans under the weight of curses, and the mists never rest. Every path leads to mystery, and not all roads lead home. šŸ° Castle Ravenloft & the Devil Strahd: Face one of D&D’s most iconic villains... He is a tyrant, a predator, and a fallen prince. Strahd is eternal, and you are simply… passing through. Start a lowly players and build to defeat this evil. šŸ•ø Slow-Burn Horror & Paranoia: Trust is fragile. Hope is rare. Every ally may have their own agenda and every kindness might be a trap. The longer you stay, the more Barovia changes you. āš°ļø Desperate Struggles & Permanent Consequences: There are no easy choices in Barovia. Moral clarity fades quickly in the mists, and heroism demands a cost. Some victories feel like losses... and some losses never leave. šŸ•Æļø Gothic Atmosphere, Tragic Histories, and Haunted Souls: From crumbling manors to desecrated chapels, every location tells a story soaked in sorrow. The dead do not rest here… and the living rarely thrive.

What Kass | The Paradox DM brings to the table

Roll20 maps: Colorful maps with Dynamic Lighting to really set the scene. Tokens: NPC's and Players get unique tokens to represent themselves. Music: Ambient music and combat tracks to help set the mood and try and get you in your character's head! Content on D&D Beyond: Freedom to choose the subclass and features you want with content sharing from my Library containing hundreds of $$$ of D&D content! Access to an exclusive discord community of like-minded TTRPG-loving people with an unmatched love for this form of Storytelling! Unique Storylines: Every table and game is completely unique and YOURS! No game of mine ever runs the same way twice. Positive, Safe & Inclusive Atmosphere: I love sharing my passion for this game and making sure everyone at the table feels included and seen. I am a Rules meets Cool DM. I am almost always happy to allow a good idea at the table, and will reward quick thinking and roleplay decisions. We will default to Rules as Written in cases of disagreement, but I am more concerned about the narrative aspect of your story and will push to give you those whenever possible!

Homebrew rules

Potions as Actions: Drinking a healing potion only requires a bonus action. However, if you use a full action you do not need to roll for the points, instead taking the full healing. Same rules apply for feeding someone else a potion. Death Saves in Secret: Death saves will be rolled secretly by the DM, adding suspense and urgency to character death. Flanking: Flanking an enemy grants a +2 to melee attack rolls instead of advantage. Spell Scrolls: Spell scrolls can be used regardless of class (including non-spellcasters); however to activate a scroll a character must use their action to make an Intelligence (Arcana) check; the DC is equal to 10 + spell level. On a success, the character activates the scroll and casts the spell; on a failure, the scroll crumbles to dust and becomes unusable.

Safety

How Kass | The Paradox DM creates a safe table

When it comes to player safety and comfort nothing is more important, pre-session every player will fill out an RPG Consent Checklist which will allow me to avoid triggers before the game even begins. Then every session zero includes letting players know any content warnings that may be present in the adventure and informing them about my open door, break and debrief policies. Players are also welcome at any time to either take breather or a break from the game, and at no point will they ever be asked to go into detail about ANYTHING they may not be comfortable with. Also, while the game is going on, if at any point a player needs content to stop immediately, they may hold up an X/N or type one in chat or private DM. This will allow me to make the necessary moves needed to make sure everyone continues to have a great time playing! Lastly, I am a huge believer in debriefing/aftercare. At the end of each session I will always hang around for anywhere between 15-30 minutes to chat about the session and to just generally hang out with anyone who wants to stick around! This is great for sessions where we may get into some heavier content so we can either discuss it or unpack it if need be! Remember, your comfort and your fun come first!
