About the adventure

Welcome to Highhelm, adventurer! Come learn of its ancient secrets, its wondrous accomplishments, and the tragic story of its first king. As guests of Clan Tolorr, Highhelm's historians, you will be a privileged witness to Highhelm's past - and a treasured guardian of its feature, if you are up to the challenge. This is the newest Pathfinder Adventure Path from Paizo, and it covers levels 1 to 10 during which the players will explore not only Highhelm itself but the grim and perilous caverns of the Darklands, the ancient origin of the dwarven people. đź‘‘Explore dwarven history and lore in Golarion! đź‘‘Claim powerful relics unique to this adventure! đź‘‘Atmospheric and immersive Foundry VTT module! đź‘‘Full-time hosting so you can always access your character between games! đź‘‘A plethora of new character options, new companions, and magic items, in the "Highhelm" source book published alongside this adventure! Over the three volumes of the adventure, the player characters will participate in a celebration in Highhelm where they will begin to build their reputation in the dwarven settlement, discover the location of the lost tomb of the first king, explore the Darklands in search of its mysterious guardian, and finally confront the villains who seek to claim the tomb for their own nefarious purposes. During the course of their travels they will uncover the lost king's secrets - and the powerful relics he left behind. We will be playing weekly at the same time, using Foundry VTT and Discord, each session lasting about three and a half hours with a break.

About me

Greetings, adventurers. My name is George, and I have been immersing myself in TTRPGs since around 2001. My journey into the realm of Game Mastering took a serious turn with the release of Pathfinder. My background in theatre, history, and education has been instrumental in shaping my GM style, which emphasizes dramatic conflict, challenging decisions, and character development. I’ve had the pleasure of engaging with a diverse and international player population, both online and in person. This experience has enriched my understanding of the game and its global appeal. The games I run are primarily drawn from official Paizo publications for Pathfinder, supplemented by key resources from publishers like Kobold Press and Sly Flourish. In each campaign, I make it a point to engage with the player characters’ backgrounds. This begins with a session zero where we collaboratively create characters that align with the theme of the campaign. Each campaign I run is a unique world unto itself. I strive to create a distinctive and consistent atmosphere for each one, whether it’s the dark and grim tone of a horror campaign or the epic battles of a high fantasy adventure. Some campaigns may include unique mechanics tailored to their theme. My games, even when played remotely online, aim to emulate the feel of a traditional tabletop experience as much as possible. I prefer to keep technology from overwhelming the gameplay, allowing us to focus on the human elements of the game - the people around our virtual table. I am always available to answer questions through this site. If you have any doubts before signing up for a session, please contact me. I am always eager to hear from established parties who are looking for a new GM. Whether you have already been gaming together, or you are a group of friends, coworkers, or a family group, I would love to embark on an adventure with you. I am also open to requests from existing/ongoing groups for a specific campaign for your party. Whether you have a published module in mind or just an idea that you’d like to develop, I’m here to help you play the game you want to play! Remember, the essence of tabletop gaming is to have fun and create memorable stories together. Let’s roll the dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

Play will begin at 1st level. All players will use Foundry VTT to create their characters and to keep them updated as we progress through the story. Foundry gives you access to an updated version of the complete rule set, so you do not need to purchase any content to participate. We will be using the Free Archetype optional rule. Players who join later at a higher level will use the "Starting Wealth by Level" table to select appropriate equipment.

The current party

"Sky King's Tomb" is one of the most beloved adventure paths for 2nd Edition, especially for its charming two opening chapters, a sandbox exploration of the great dwarven citadel of Highhelm. It is perfect for beginner players, and moves through various styles of play through different chapters. Please get in touch if you have any questions. And if you have an existing party that is interested in taking on a new challenge, get in touch to schedule a private play-through for your group. We will be using the gradual ability boost optional rule and the ancestral paragon optional rule. This is also the perfect time to delve into some of the uniquely dwarven character options from the "Highhelm" souce book! You can download the free players' guide at https://downloads.paizo.com/SkyKingsTombPlayersGuide.pdf

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A good quality headset is required to play, to prevent audio disturbance and feedback. Players are expected to be familiar with the rules that apply to their own characters - if you have any doubts feel free to check in at any time over Discord. Characters should be created before the first game, in consultation with the GM and after reading the Players' Guide avalable for free from Paizo at: https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6sid0?Introducing-the-Sky-King-s-Tomb-Player-s-Guide As you will see in the guide, despite its dwarven theme, the adventure welcomes player characters of all ancestries - indeed, the adventure assumes that the player characters begin as honored guests in the city.

What George brings to the table

Everything needed to participate in the game will be provided electronically, through Foundry and Discord.

Homebrew rules

We will be using the Free Archetype Optional Rule, and the Gradual Ability Boost Optional Rule. Additionally, to dig deeper into the dwarven flavor of the campaign, we will be using the Ancestral Paragon Optional Rule, to allow players of all ancestries to choose dwarven options.

How George creates a safe table

During session zero, we will discuss our personal limits on what kind of content we would like to include in the game, using a tool called Lines and Veils. Though the adventure is fairly "mild" by the standards of heroic fantasy, it does contain the standard amount of violence, including violence against animals, as well as some potentially triggering themes during the player characters' exploration of the Darklands: darkness, isolation, being lost, and fantasy versions of creatures found in those environments like giant worms and spiders. We will be taking a ten to fifteen minute break roughly halfway through each session. A version of the "X card" module will be enabled during play, and if there are any other modules that would make the experience better for you please let me know and I will look into adding them. Finally, no language or behaviour that makes other players feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at the table will be tolerated.
