About the adventure

Free Archetype variant rule There is always someone willing to pay good money for bloodshed, and there are always people willing to take the contract. You? You're ruthless, and you're good at what you do. You're one of the best contract killers in the entire Inner Sea region, perhaps the entire world. As a Red Mantis, part of an elite assassin's guild (one of the guildmaster's favorite agents, even!) you've been selected for a new mission. What could go wrong? A new age of war is coming. Witness the beginning. This is Prey for Death, an assassin-themed Pathfinder Second Edition adventure for 14th level PCs, ending at 18th level. This is a standalone adventure that will include events which will majorly impact the Pathfinder setting. This adventure will be for those of us desperate to squeeze a little more gaming into our lives, and as such is only 2 hour sessions. If this is something that interests you but the time scheduled here doesn't fit, feel free to message me and we can try to find a 2-hr slot that does work for you, or even see if anyone is interested in 1-hr slots.

About me

Hello there, fellow nerds. My name is Dan and I am a life-long GM who would love to run a campaign for you. I have been GMing games since D&D 3rd edition, kept going through 3.5, then Pathfinder 1e, and now both Starfinder and Pathfinder 2e. I genuinely love nerding out about ttrpg mechanics, but the most important thing is story. Well, actually, story is the second most important thing. The number one most important thing is that my players are having fun. Fortunately, as far as I'm concerned, the three usually go hand in hand. Lately, I have been running Paizo's wonderful pre-written adventure paths, but with plenty of homebrew and customizing to my players' backstories, motivation, etc. I will work with you before the game starts to help you build your character as little or as much as you'd like, and will provide players guides which will allow you to make characters perfect for the plot, if you so choose, by going over some common themes, factions, regions, etc, that might show up during the campaign. Even if you don't tie your character into any of these prompts, I will still find a way to weave everyone's character arcs and the main plot together, so that we may tell a story all our own. Even though these adventures are pre-written, I allow room for creative problem solving at any point. If the book doesn't have the answers you need or didn't consider the path you choose to take, I will make it work through a combination of homebrew, improv, and experience. Over the years, I have taught many people how to play these (and similar) games, and absolutely welcome players entirely new to role-playing games. That said, you old grognards are welcome, too. Whatever your experience level, I can't wait to adventure with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll go over this in more detail during session 0 and in conversations on the discord, but the short version is as follows: You will be starting at level 14 with the Free Archetype optional rule and a handful of minor homebrew bonuses (mostly lore skills) I've come up with. I also plan on being generous with your starting wealth. In particular, you will all be starting with your very own magic sawtooth sabers, the iconic weapon of the Red Mantis assassins.

Preparing for the session

Just check out the discord, it has all the info you need, and we'll go over everything together during Session 0. We will be using discord for voice and Foundry as the vtt, so you will need a functional computer and microphone.

What Subterran Dan brings to the table

I will provide you with a link to our private discord channel, our fancy foundry table with all the premium adventure bells and whistles, and provide you with a ton of links to resources to help you make the perfect character, as well as make myself available to any and all questions you may have. I am normally very open to all skill levels, but this is a high level adventure and in order to handle high level play you need some experience, at least. This adventure is also an "evil" campaign, but it is *not* an "edgelord" campaign. We aren't going to be graphically torturing NPCs and we aren't going to be running around doing evil things for no reason. You're professional and highly effective assassins. That said, this adventure might get a little gruesome at times, and I don't plan on shying away from it. If you aren't good with brutal violence and gore, this isn't the campaign for you. (If this isnt for you, feel free to message me anyway and I can help you pick another adventure that will be better suited to your tastes, whether it's one I GM or not.)

I will be open to any and all discussions about boundaries and needs in this area, privately and/or as a group, but the expectation should be that things will get fairly dark at times, without becoming gratuitous.
