About the adventure
You are one of the People—mutants who have lived your entire life inside the Ark, a rusting sanctuary in a poisoned world. But the stores are empty, the water foul, and the Elder is dying. If the Ark is to survive, someone must venture out into the Zone… and that someone is you. Out there lie dangers beyond imagining—rot-storms, mutant beasts, and the ruins of the Ancients. Yet also hope: artifacts of lost technology, whispers of Eden, and the truth of who you are and why you were changed. 🔦 In this game, you will: Scavenge through the ruins of a dying world Discover relics and secrets of the Ancients Build, defend, and shape the fate of your Ark Search for the mythical Eden—and the truth of your mutation Will you save your people… or doom what’s left of them?

Creating your character
Characters will be beginners (equivalent to DnD level 1). We will create them together, during Session 0, though we can start sketching them before. Key is to create a group of adventurers that will want to stay together for a long, long time, through thick and think, so all characters need to function together with each other. Do not build a character that antagonizes the rest of the group!
Your PC will: 1. Have a clear motivation. 2. Be able to collaborate effectively with other party members. 3. Have a well-defined personality weakness. Use the 7 deadly sins for inspiration. Background Story Requirements: 1. Your story must align with the setting. 2. Your character's backstory should not exceed their current level of power. 3. Be concise, no longer than one page.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players need a microphone (camera is optional). They do not need to read the rules ahead of time or create characters. I will supply a Virtual Tabletop (Foundry).

How Mikael Hellstrom creates a safe table
I will send out the lines and veils document before the first session. We go through it thoroughly during Session 0, then we create characters. Mutant: Year Zero is a post-apocalyptic exploration game. A typical session in Mutant: Year Zero looks like this: * Players gather for the Ark Assembly. This is where they make decisions for how to improve their home base- the base building aspect of this game is very strong. * Playing their PCs - Players can adventure in the Ark or outside it, exploring the dangers of the Zone outside. As a sandbox game, the players decide which goals they want to pursue: developing the Ark, search the ruins for Artifacts from the Old Days, or find their origins in the mythical Eden? * Wrap up and de-brief. What worked, what didn't? Experience points to characters, opportunity for players to give feedback on the session. I use Monte Cook's Consent in Gaming checklist. I will calibrate the game according to player needs as expressed through that checklist, so any of the below can be vetoed or handled "off-screen" as needed. In Mutant: Year Zero, as written (and this can be adjusted according to the above), the game contains: * Slavery * Torture * Freezing to Death * Natural disasters * Severe weather * Gore * Harm to animals * Racism * Starvation * Thirst
