Creating your character

You're welcome to create your own character for this adventure, and I'll provide you with all the tools and guidance you need via Alchemy VTT or Foundry. I highly recommend checking out the pre-made characters. There are dozens to choose, and they can all be taken in so many different directions. Not to mention, any particular detail can be changed to make them all your own! If you're excited about making your own character from scratch, let me know! We'll set aside some time during session zero to guide you smoothly through the creation process, ensuring you're confident and ready to dive in.

Preparing for the session

How Should Players Prepare? Joining this game is easy—here's all you'll need: Alchemy Account: Create a free account at alchemyrpg.com to access our virtual tabletop. (We may partially use Alchemy and Foundry) Discord Account: Set up a free Discord account (discord.com) for clear voice chat and group communication. Mic and Headphones: A microphone (headset recommended) and headphones to ensure clear audio and minimal echo during gameplay. Computer: A stable desktop or laptop computer to smoothly run Alchemy/Foundry and Discord during sessions. (Discord works well through a phone or tablet, but not so sure about Alchemy or Foundry) That's it—no prior reading or game experience required. I'll handle the rest!

Homebrew rules

Downtime will be granted per session (even if there is no time to spend it that session). You can save it up to spend in lumpsums or use it to activate the Flashback move.

How Nico creates a safe table

Your comfort and safety are essential to a great game experience. Lines and Veils (topics players prefer to avoid or keep off-screen) are built directly into Alchemy VTT. During your account setup, you'll have a simple and intuitive way to indicate your personal boundaries, ensuring they’re respected throughout the game. If you miss our initial Session 0 (or the introductory session), I'll take time to meet with you one-on-one, making sure you're comfortable with your character, the Crew, and the game's themes. Every session wraps up with a short debrief, known in City of Mist as "Geek Out During the Credits"—an engaging way to reflect on the story, check in with each other, and build camaraderie as a group. Throughout our game, open communication is strongly encouraged. My goal is always to foster a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment where everyone feels heard and valued. If anything arises during play, please feel free to talk with me privately—I’m here to ensure everyone feels safe and excited to play.
