About the adventure

Mystery! Mutated monsters! Magically radioactive ruins! Never travel alone in Drakkenheim. Eudora Finch, a mage of the Amethyst Academy, ignored this cardinal rule when embarking on a solo reconnaissance mission into the ruined city. She entered the Haze yesterday morning and has not been heard from since, meaning there is little time left before she succumbs to its contaminating magic. Your party has been contracted by the Academy to retrieve her if possible, or at least bring back information about her fate. You'll be playing a party of level 7 adventurers who were recruited for this job. The adventure will take you into the heart of the city, where players can expect a blend of combat, investigation, and social encounters throughout. Venturing into the city is challenging enough, but will you be able to escape once you do? Battle maps will be in Roll20, and we'll use Discord for audio/video. ------------- About the setting: Drakkenheim is no more. Fifteen years ago, the capital and crown jewel of Westemar was devastated by an eldritch storm of falling stars that left behind a meteorite with powerful and mystifying effects. After more than a decade of bloody civil war, the realm is left shattered and the royal line broken. Drakkenheim itself is a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by otherworldly magic and filled with hideous monsters and warring factions. Amid these ruins, fantastic wealth, lost knowledge, and powerful artifacts lie ready for the taking by adventurers brave or foolish enough to venture in. Familiarity with the setting is not required, since I'll share essential information beforehand. Those who have watched Dungeons of Drakkenheim can also enjoy this adventure, as it's been adapted from content in the campaign guide but doesn't match any streamed content.

About me

LGBTQ+ friendly | Neurodivergent friendly | Character-focused Let's tell a story together! I started playing D&D 5e six years ago, but I've been telling stories my whole life. I wrote and illustrated my first story when I was six and finished college with a Creative Writing minor that had nothing to do with my business degree. I believe the best stories, however, are the ones you tell together with your friends. From make-believe on the playground to play-by-post RPGs with my online friends as a teenager, I grew up with a love of collaborative storytelling in particular. I even knew about D&D and was desperate to try it out, but it wasn't until six years ago that I finally found my people. Once I did, I jumped in headfirst and never looked back. I've played hundreds of hours since then and started DMing after just my second time playing. Currently I'm DMing a weekly campaign with friends that's been going strong for over a year. I love creating interesting scenarios for my players to react to and facilitating a fun time for everyone. I'm constantly getting new one-shot ideas and running them for my friends, meaning any games I post here will have been vetted at least once by them. My favorite part of DMing is seeing the unique perspective and ideas that each new player brings to the table, so let's get rolling!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create their characters before the game and share their character sheets. You can wait until after session 0 to build your character or come with an idea ready. Given how short this adventure is, extensive backstory is not required. Characters will be level 7, and all 2014 classes/races/backgrounds from published WotC materials are permitted. If you have access to Drakkenheim-specific content and want to use it, you're welcome to do so as long as it's finalized content (not playtest). Full character creation rules/guidance can be found on my private Discord once you've joined the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

* You'll need a working microphone and audio, access to a computer (in an environment without too much background noise), and a stable internet connection. Webcam is strongly encouraged but not required. * We will use Discord for pre-game communication and audio/video during the game, plus Roll20 for maps, so you need an account on both sites. All players must accept the Roll20 invite at least 12 hours before our first session so I can ensure everything is set up. * You'll create your character sheet ahead of time and send it to me at least 12 hours before our game. I will also need an image to use for your character's Roll20 token. * Use whatever dice work for you - virtual or physical. We're all grownups here, and I trust you not to cheat yourself out of the incredible moments that can come from a low roll.

What Jamie brings to the table

As a DM, I provide: - Shared access to the 2014 Player's Handbook, Xanathar's, Tasha's, 2014 DMG, and Dungeons of Drakkenheim through D&D Beyond - Pre-game communication on a private Discord server - A neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ friendly environment - Detailed maps for combat and exploration that encourage interactions and creative problem solving - Narrative descriptions to enhance immersion - A focus on cooperative storytelling and facilitating opportunities for PCs to do cool things - Background music - An in-depth knowledge of 5e 2014 rules based on hundreds of hours played and DM'd, plus thousands of hours watching Critical Role/Dimension 20/Dungeons of Drakkenheim/etc. - A willingness to ignore/bend the rules when something makes narrative sense or it's going to be boring for you to watch me frantically search through a rulebook - A desperate need to justify the Creative Writing minor that I got alongside my business degree ten years ago - Puns, probably

How Jamie creates a safe table

Players can disclose any Lines/Veils in the pre-game questionnaire I'll share over Discord. I will share all lines and veils anonymously before the game starts, and we will review X/N/O. If at any point a player becomes uncomfortable, they are encouraged to drop an X or N in the chat or to take a break if needed. I will ensure that all lines and veils are respected throughout the game, but some topics are unavoidable in this setting. While I never lean graphic in my descriptions, themes of body horror, cosmic horror, and mass death from a natural disaster are at the core of Drakkenheim. Players will encounter mutated monsters that were once human and see first-hand the aftermath of the meteor strike that destroyed the city. You can expect a PG-13 level of violence and profanity unless the group decides otherwise. I will never include or condone racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, or any other harmful behavior or attitudes.
