Learn to Play Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot
About the adventure
You are a team of young (or new) adventurers joining up with the proud and highly respectable Guild of Heroes to make a name for yourself, build up a fortune, or just learn more about the beautiful and magical world you grew up in! With the release of the new "manual of monsters" Professor Tulaine Ambri Thawali of the Guild of Heroes needs to train a bunch of new adventurers—STAT. Why? Too many monsters they just don't know about! The professor will guide—but probably not help too much—your team through their practical exam; a five room dungeon where we highlight each of the three core competencies of a good adventurer in Dungeons and Dragons—combat, exploration, and social interaction. There will not be a quiz at the end. But there will be a boss fight!

How to prepare
If you have a mic and as stable internet connection, we can go from there. Cameras are great for roleplaying and to avoid talk-over, but optional for your comfort. You'll need a (free) Discord account, and I'll invite you to my Discord as we get started! We'll be lightly using an app within Discord to share a map and character tokens to clarify and track positioning and actions if your characters get into a tussle, but you don't have to know a single thing about it! As mentioned above, I'll provide pre written characters you can choose from so we can get into the adventure even faster!
What I provide
With a background in teaching and improv, as well as decades of experience writing and designing a variety of roleplaying games, I may be a pretty good pick for learning while enjoying this game. It’s been a big part of both my hobbies and my professional experience for most of my life and I’m excited to share my joy and love for this hobby with you! I love improv, big choices, and the "rule of cool!"--when in doubt, go with the coolest/most fun answer! Which is all to say, the fun and the story matter most to me, as much as I respect the rules in the book and the story the dice tell!
Gameplay details
Because we have such a short session together, I will give you a brief over view of the ideas behind a Session Zero for standard gaming, and touch on what safety tools are and how to use them as simply as possible. I'll use The Deck of Player Safety, a tool that allows you to anonymously tell me anything you would greatly dislike seeing at the table. (Like spiders, or bonfires!) This game is PG (because of violence) and will be pretty clean in general, but in case you feel uncomfortable at any point, there will be live tools to anonymously ask for a slow down or stop. Your comfort and fun is my main goal at the table.
