On a Knife's Edge | The Barrowcleft Echoes
Blades in the Dark | Campaign
About the adventure
Each step of the wooden staircase creaks as you ascend to the upper level of the Dimmer Mansion. Sister Roslyn ushers you down a hallway to a musty, windowless room where she unrolls a blueprint over a stone table. She gazes serenely out from under her hood. “As you know, Madame Quarla runs a lucrative blade-smithing business within the city. Bluecoats, Billhooks, Revolutionaries, Grinders, and even the Imperial Military have contracts with her to forge the means to their violence. The Dimmer Sisters have no mercantile interest in the Duskvol knife trade. What we want is much more specific.” Roslyn passes you a scrap of cloth with a sketch: A long, cruel-looking black dagger. “We cannot enter the premises of Madame Quarla’s establishment ourselves, so we are tasking you with retrieving this item. You’ll be compensated double if you avoid detection.”
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Join The Echoes, made up of Bug, Elf, and Rat as they set out to execute what is sure to be a highly stressful score.

Teacher
Legend was a fantastic handler in a game of Delta Green with me and my wife. His understanding of the game is top notch, and he never shot down any wild ideas we had (and believe me, there were many of those). Our characters couldn't succeed on a roll to save their lives, but the session was still a blast, which in my mind is the mark of a truly fantastic game master!

How to prepare
This game is built on immersion and intensity, and that starts with how you show up. ✅ Discord & Foundry – All sessions run through Discord (voice) and Foundry. Get familiar with both. ✅ A Solid Mic – Clear audio is non-negotiable. If your mic is bad or you’re in a noisy environment, it breaks immersion for everyone. ✅ Quiet Space – Background noise kills the mood. Find a distraction-free zone where you can focus. ✅ Character Ready – Build with intent. Read the Player’s Guide and come prepared to contribute. If you’re set up properly, we hit the ground running—no wasted time, no distractions, just great storytelling and hard-hitting gameplay.
What I provide
How do you ambush a ghost? How do you break a demon’s morale? What’s the best formation against a spectral assault? I've never played or run this game before and I can't wait to find out! I bring curiosity and a passion for collaborative storytelling.
Gameplay details
This Blades in the Dark game features themes of crime, deception, and supernatural horror, including burglary, coercion, and morally ambiguous choices. Expect tense encounters, potential violence, and paranormal elements, such as ghosts, arcane rituals, and cursed artifacts. The story may also include themes of betrayal, paranoia, and psychological manipulation as you navigate the dangers of the criminal underworld. Safety Tools in Use: 🔹 Monte Cook's RPG Safety and Consent Checklist – Establishes clear boundaries before play. 🔹 Open-Door Policy – Players can step away at any time, no explanation needed. 🔹 Aftercare & Debriefing – A brief post-session check-in to ensure everyone is feeling okay after the game. This is a horror game first and foremost, but the goal is to create an engaging, intense experience without crossing personal boundaries. If you have any concerns or specific requests, we will discuss them before play. Your comfort and enjoyment are just as important as the horror itself.
