About the adventure

The war between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty of Xhorhas is escalating fast. An explosion in the heart of the Empire releases a dangerous criminal. Is the tide of the war turning? Is the end finally in sight, or is this only the beginning of something far more devastating? Heroes are needed now, more than ever. Set in the Critical Role universe, this homebrew campaign uses the prewritten mini-adventure "Dangerous Designs" as a springboard to launch your characters into a quest of their own making! This will be a character-driven story, where your choices matter. You need no prior knowledge of any Critical Role campaign or media. All the information you require to get your character fully integrated will be provided during session 0. This game uses the the Play-by-Post format. Play-by-Post has been around for almost as long as D&D has, and is best suited to those of us who just do not have the time to play a full session every week. With Play-by-Post, you play to your schedule in a relaxed, fun and safe online environment.

About me

Hi! I'm Dave, an actor and avid D&D player from Bonnie Scotland. I've been playing 5e for 5 years now, and while I've grown very fond of the system, I've dipped my toe in other games such as Call of Cthulhu, Daggerheart and Kids on Bikes! I generally focus on narrative over mechanical crunch, but my top priority at any table is the enjoyment and engagement of the players. The story can't be told without you or the dice - are you ready to begin your next chapter?

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be using D&DBeyond to create characters. Full character creation rules will be discussed during session 0. We will start with the mini-adventure "Dangerous Designs" from "Explorer's Guide to Wildemount." This will cover levels 1-3.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need: 1. a Discord account, 2. a D&DBeyond account (free), and 3. an Owlbear Rodeo account (free). OPTIONAL: You may wish to read through "Explorer's Guide to Wildemount" to get a better understanding of the setting, though this is not mandatory. I have access to a digital copy that will be shared with players.

What Dave brings to the table

I will be using Discord as the forum for our game (text only, so no need for a camera or microphone!) I will also be using Owlbear Rodeo for battle maps, and D&DBeyond for characters. I love roleplaying and combat, though I generally favour the former. With me, there is almost always a noncombative option, and I invite my players to try anything they like to avoid unnecessary fighting. That is, if they *want* to avoid fighting... My favourite part in any game begins when a player throws caution to the wind and says, "I want to try something crazy," because you know you're in for a treat! I embrace the Rule of Cool whenever possible, especially in character-driven moments, to encourage players to push the boat out and give it a shot. Just hope that the dice are in your favour too!
I aim to post 2-3 times per day to advance the story, while also being around to answer any queries players may have. Play-by-post is a much slower format than face-to-face games, and I want to remedy this as best I can.

Safety

How Dave creates a safe table

I will be providing a RPG Safety Tools checklist of themes for players to fill out anonymously. As your Dungeon Master, it is my duty and responsibility to ensure everyone has the best time possible in a safe environment. Communication and trust are key - if there is anything that is making you uncomfortable in the game, I will do my best to fix and resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
