About the adventure
The wildlands are crumbling, overrun by monsters, lawless warbands, and the remnants of past civilizations swallowed by time. The last bastion of order stands on the edge of oblivion—a lone frontier keep, struggling to hold back the tide. The crown has abandoned these lands, but whispers speak of riches, lost knowledge, and power for those bold enough to seize it. This is a game of survival, exploration, and dungeon delving. Each session, you and your fellow adventurers will set out into the ruined frontier, discovering forgotten vaults, treacherous caves, and haunted ruins, fighting to reclaim what was lost. Resources are scarce, choices matter, and time does not stand still—each session advances the world by one week, and the wilds will shift accordingly. There is no central plot—your actions will shape the story. Will you drive back the darkness, carve out a new settlement, and forge your names into legend? Or will the frontier fall, another casualty of the rising tide of monsters, warring factions, and ancient horrors? This game is for experienced players who enjoy tactical combat, resource management, and meaningful choices. Each session will conclude with the party returning to a safe hub, allowing players to drop in and out while keeping the world alive and ever-changing. The keep will endure… unless you let it fall.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Captain of the Sandbox – GM Jesse Ahoy there! I’m GM Jesse, a lifelong tabletop RPG enthusiast who got my start with AD&D 2e & 3e, and now I run Shadowdark as my system of choice. I’m an avid reader, an aspiring author, and a worldbuilding fanatic, so when I say my campaigns are packed with custom lore, monsters, and dungeons, I mean it. My GM Style & What to Expect 🔹 Sandbox Storytelling – The world moves with or without you. Your choices shape the narrative. 🔹 Tactical Combat & Resource Management – Every decision matters. Survival is a real challenge. 🔹 Player-Driven Action – There’s no single “main plot.” You decide where to go and what to do. 🔹 Immersive Roleplay – I love when players bring their characters to life and engage with the world. 🔹 Old-School Dungeon Crawls – Expect gritty expeditions, deadly encounters, and the thrill of discovery. What Makes My Games Unique? ⚔ Everything is Homebrew – My worlds, monsters, and dungeons are all custom-made for a fresh, unpredictable experience. ⚔ Rule of Cool Meets Real Consequences – Want to try something crazy? Go for it—but be ready for the outcome. ⚔ An Evolving World – Time does not wait. Every session moves the clock forward, and the world reacts to what you do—or don’t do. I welcome experienced players looking for a challenging but rewarding campaign, where every decision carries weight, exploration is dangerous and thrilling, and legends aren’t found—they’re forged. If that sounds like your kind of game, let’s roll some dice and see where the adventure takes us!

Creating your character
🔹 Bring Four Level 1 Characters – This game will use troop-style play, meaning each player maintains a stable of characters that can be swapped out between sessions as party compositions change. Real life happens, and this system allows flexibility for players missing a session. 🔹 Allowed Races & Classes ✔ All core races + Kobolds are allowed. ✔ All core classes + Ranger and Bard are available. ✔ If you have a non-standard class you’re interested in playing, talk to me first so we can make sure it fits the setting. 🔹 Troop System Rules ✔ Each troop member tracks their own experience—they do not level up together. ✔ Characters stationed in the same hub can share gold, resources, and equipment freely. ✔ If a troop member dies, they can be replaced with a new character at the level of the lowest member in the troop.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To join the game, players should have the following: 🔹 Mic Required, Webcam Optional – Voice communication is essential for smooth gameplay, but webcams are not required. 🔹 Virtual Tabletop (VTT): Owlbear Rodeo – We’ll be using Owlbear Rodeo for maps and tactical combat. It’s free and easy to use, so no prior experience is necessary. A link will be provided before the session. 🔹 Shadowdark Rules Familiarity – While you don’t need to memorize everything, having a basic understanding of the rules is expected. If you’re unfamiliar with Shadowdark, reading the core mechanics and character creation sections ahead of time will help. 🔹 Communication & Scheduling – We’ll use Discord for game coordination, questions, and updates. Make sure you have an account set up. 🔹 Pre-Made Characters & Troop System – Each player should bring four Level 1 characters following the troop-style system. If you need help finalizing your characters, reach out before the first session. This setup ensures everyone is prepared, ready to jump into the game, and has what they need for a smooth session.
What GM Jesse brings to the table
As your GM, I bring creativity, experience, and a dynamic world where player choices shape the story. 🔹 Virtual Tabletop: I use Owlbear Rodeo as our primary VTT for tactical combat and exploration. While some scenarios will require theater of the mind, I have a vast collection of dungeon, location, and encounter maps to enhance immersion and strategic gameplay. 🔹 Tokens & Visuals: I provide a large library of monster tokens and generic PC tokens, but I highly encourage players to bring their own character art for a more personal touch. 🔹 Expanded Content & Customization: I incorporate handpicked non-core Shadowdark resources, including expanded equipment, special classes, and unique spells that fit seamlessly into the Third Age of Terrastra. Expect gear scarcity to matter, light to be essential, and magic to be rare but potent. 🔹 My GM Style: ✔ Tactical, deadly combat – Expect meaningful choices in battle, where positioning, planning, and resource management can mean the difference between victory and death. ✔ Survival matters – The wilds don’t care about fairness. Tracking supplies, torches, and wounds will be part of the experience. ✔ Player-driven storytelling – There is no predetermined plot—your choices, alliances, and discoveries will shape the future of the frontier. ✔ Immersive world & roleplay – While this isn’t a politics-heavy game, actions have consequences, and NPCs will react accordingly. Whether you're leading the charge against a monstrous warband, unearthing ancient horrors, or staking your claim on a lawless frontier, this game is about exploration, strategy, and survival in a world that moves with or without you.
