About the adventure

ONCE you were whole. A primordial being of Arcadia, you dwelt in the dreamlike realm deep beyond the Hedge. Until They arrived, entities of too many names and too many faces. With words and deeds of beauty and terror They descended upon your home. By charm, by guile, by force, They wormed Their way closer to you, close enough to finally snatch your beating heart from your chest. NOW you yearn. You know not what for, but the yawning void between your ribs cries out to be filled. Your master, ever merciful, has given you purpose. Hunt. Stalk. Capture. Return. Hurt, but never Break. These abate the hunger within you, dulling the craving for a time. But inevitably it returns, an aching, pulsing sense of what was once yours. In an inversion of a typical Changeling: the Lost game, Let Slip the Dogs shifts the focus from escaped Changelings to one of their greatest fears: the Huntsmen. Rather than the prey always looking over their shoulder, you are the tireless predator ever on the horizon until the perfect moment arises to strike. Yet despite your supernatural power and resilience, you are not almighty; your gifts were given at a cost. A True Fae pulls at your leash, pointing the weapon which is your very being in the direction that best suits their mercurial whims. Huntsmen typically work alone. It must be a matter of great import for your Keepers to bid you cooperate on a single task. How will this group of lone wolves fair when forced to hunt as a pack in the strange mortal world? And what a strange world it is: cold and stark as a winter's morning. Myriad temptations lie here for beings defined above all else by their desire. The tearing of supple mortal flesh beneath your claws, the caress of that same flesh against your own. Humanity is defined by their Vices; which of them might tempt you from your path?

About me

Not to sound too cliche right off the bat, but I just really love games, y'all. I started at a way-too-crowded D&D table of rowdy teenagers back in high school, cut my teeth on freeform forum roleplay, and made my way back to tabletop games in college. Since then I've met so many amazing people, made so many incredible memories, and had so much fun exploring this interesting and innovative space. I just want to keep doing that and share this hobby that I love so much with more people. So let's craft stories together! One of my favorite things to do as a GM is to turn dials and tweak campaign details to center the player characters and their stories, to really tie them into the world of the adventure. I want to see your characters have dramatic, fulfilling arcs. I want to see them struggle and overcome adversity, and while failure is always an option, it should be a chance to tackle things from a different angle. I'm the president of your character's fan club, but also the heel that will needle them so we can all cheer when they win. I always strive to bring a high level of system mastery to my games. Forget a rule? No problem, we're all always learning, and my brain loves to hold onto minutia like that. Can it remember the birthdays of my loved ones? Nope, gotta save space for the fact that you can drown someone back to life in Dungeons and Dragons 3e. I'm part of the Chicano, neurodivergent, and LGBTQ+ communities, so it's important to me that my table always be a safe place for everyone regardless of race, ability, gender, orientation, age, religion, etc. We don't tolerate intolerance here.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be the bulk of our Session 0 conversation. Feel free to come in with as much or as little of an idea for a character as you like, but be prepared to engage with your fellow players and create things together. Huntsmen weren't necessarily intended to be the protagonists, and follow slightly different creation guidelines than a typical Chronicles of Darkness character, and we'll discuss some of the finer details together. If you wish to get a head start, check out the section on The Wild Hunters in Chapter 5 of the Changeling: the Lost sourcebook!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A working microphone and free Discord account will be needed for voice chat. No other programs or accounts are necessary as the game will be hosted on Foundry. The rulebooks will be available for your perusal, but no prior experience with the system or with Foundry are required to join

What Michael brings to the table

• A Foundry server to hold character sheets and player notes and handle dice rolls • A private Discord server for voice chat, out-of-game discussion, and color commentary • The Chronicles of Darkness and Changeling: the Lost 2nd Edition sourcebooks • A fan club for your characters and the stories we'll tell together

Safety

How Michael creates a safe table

My top priority as Storyteller is to make sure everyone at the table has a safe and comfortable time. To that end, we'll discuss potential lines, veils, or other fraught topics together as part of our Session 0. That said, there are certain themes which are central to the system and cannot easily be written out. Changeling is fundamentally a game about what it means to be a survivor of abuse, and how people grapple with the traumatic experiences that have changed their lives. The book also describes itself as a "game of beautiful madness," and characters will have to deal with moments of unreality and having their very senses questioned. Let Slip the Dogs in particular is intended to be an exploration of the darker aspects of desire. Huntsmen are powerful beings forged for violent ends and defined by their yearning, and this game will explore the murky places where those natures mix. These are themes that can be heavy and dark, but this will be a safe space to delve into them. Even in a world of darkness, there is beauty. While difficult topics may come up in-game, my tables have a zero tolerance policy for any real life racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, or any other form of bigotry. Such behavior will result in immediate removal from the game.
