Reviews I've given (1)
I've been playing games with Michael for just under a decade now, and he is one of the best DMs I've ever had the pleasure of storytelling with. His vast knowledge of the rules never, ever comes off as haughty, and no matter what question you have -- whether you've been playing for a month or a decade -- he's able to concisely and clearly help you understand the mechanics so that you can have fun playing. But where Michael really shines is collaborative storytelling with his players. Do you want a DM who's going to lovingly stab you in the back with your character's backstory? Who will help you craft meaningful, tear-jerking story arcs? Who ensures combat tells a story using varied set pieces, mechanics, and tactics? Some of my all-time favorite character moments have come from games that Michael has run, and that's no accident; he takes the collaborative relationship between GM and players seriously, and always works to craft a compelling story with the players. Instead of relying on railroading, he lets the players' decisions and desires push the narrative forward, which creates a unique and meaningful experience every time. Whether it's a homebrew story about magical girls coming to terms with their childhoods, sin-eaters conducting occult rituals to the tune of Soulja Boy's Kiss Me Thru The Phone, or a version of Curse of Strahd so nice I had to play through it twice, you're in for a mechanical AND narrative treat when you play a game led by Michael!
