Whispers of the Emberwood: A Humblewood Campaign

Whispers of the Emberwood: A Humblewood Campaign

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

In the heart of the vast Humblewood, where ancient trees stretch toward the heavens and the songs of the forest weave through the air, a sinister change stirs. The once peaceful Emberwood has been plagued by mysterious fires, unnatural storms, and whispers carried on the wind that speak of a darkness long forgotten. The Woodkin sense a disturbance deep within the forest, a malevolent force that threatens the delicate balance of their world. The village of Alderheart, the steadfast heart of Humblewood, has become a beacon of hope for those seeking safety from the growing chaos. Refugees from the burning outskirts flood the city, bringing with them tales of shadowy creatures and eerie, flickering lights that dance in the woods at night. The Council of Alderheart calls upon brave souls to venture into the Emberwood, uncover the source of the malevolence, and restore peace to their homeland. As whispers of ancient prophecies resurface and alliances between the Birdfolk and Humblefolk grow tense, your party must navigate treacherous woods, confront forgotten spirits, and uncover the secrets buried beneath the forest floor. Will you heed the call, unravel the mysteries of the Emberwood, and protect the sacred heart of Humblewood? The fate of the forest rests in your hands.

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Additional details

How to prepare

You will need to have/bring: -A Microphone and Discord Downloaded -A DNDBeyond and a Roll20 account (They're both free) -Beyond20 Browser extension for Firefox or Chrome (Not necessary but makes stuff easier) -A Webcam (If you would like to use video, but this isn't required) -A Positive Attitude and a BIG Smile :D

What I provide

As your GM, I bring a variety of tools to each of my games. Aside from the typical stuff (Roll20, Discord and DNDBeyond), I also really enjoy bringing NPCs to life with different personalities and voices, as well as a constant ambient backtrack to make you really feel immersed in the world. When it comes to rulings, I like to read the table. If the table wants a hardcore RAW experience then we will stick to the rules as they were written, but if the table is looking to kick back and have fun then I'm totally here for it! Rules are only as fun as we at the table make them. Lastly, when you're playing at my table, pack extra smiles and be prepared to HAVE FUN!

Gameplay details

When it comes to player safety and comfort nothing is more important, which is why during every session zero I make sure to ask my players about their limits by doing a quick check in about each players triggers and Xs or Ns, letting them know any content warnings that may be present in the adventure and informing them about my open door, break and debrief policies. Players are also welcome at any time to either take breather or a break from the game, and at no point will they ever be asked to go into detail about ANYTHING they may not be comfortable with. Also, while the game is going on, if at any point a player needs content to stop immediately, they may hold up an X/N or type one in chat. This will allow me to make the necessary moves needed to make sure everyone continues to have a great time playing! Lastly, I am a huge believer in debriefing/aftercare. At the end of each session I will always hang around for anywhere between 15-30 minutes to chat about the session and to just generally hang out with anyone who wants to stick around! This is great for sessions where we may get into some heavier content so we can either discuss it or unpack it if need be! Remember, your comfort and your fun come first!
