Learn To Play: Gundren's Gold & Glory (Lost Mine of Phandelver)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

Is this your first time playing Dungeons & Dragons? Then this adventure and this Dungeon Master (DM) are perfect for you. You just arrived in the regional capital of Neverwinter after a long journey from Baldur's Gate. You got your first job - and immediately all hell breaks loose as two of your dearest friends get into trouble: Your new employer and his purse full of gold coins! Will you be the hero who will save your employer and rescue your dearest treasure: Your salary for the job? :) In this 2-hour session we will play the first adventure from the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: "The Lost Mine of Phandelver!". I love this setup, because it offers you a very easy way to learn the game mechanics *as you play*. Before I started to actually PLAY Dungeons & Dragons I felt completely overwhelmed. I wanted to play so badly - but I didn't know where to start - and all the guide books and online videos didn't provide what I really needed: A human person who would guide me through my first game - and answer my questions as they came up. I think I needed about half a year before I finally joined my first campaign. My first GM was a great guy from Uruguay who patiently explained my options and answered my questions as they came along. (And then he watched in horror as my creative choices destroyed his pre-meditated plans for the evening. It was great fun for both of us. :)) I want you to have the same great experience with me as your Game Master (GM). You will learn as you play. And we will both have fun. :) And if you enjoy this one session: Then "The Lost Mine of Phandelver" offers you a whole campaign with an epic story of conspiracy and deceit, heroic quests and great friendships with your fellow players - and at the end a treasure beyond your wildest dreams. Don't ask anymore IF Dungeons & Dragons is the right game for you - but let me ask you instead: "How do you wanna do this?" :) Sign up now and we start playing! I wish you joy. Chris

Chris was great. He was funny. Not having played since the AD&D days, I found him patient, well-organized, and educational. He hosted a fun game for those of us were new to virtual tabletop gaming.

First time playing in almost 40 years and Chris did a wonderful job both explaining the changes to the mechanics and made the entire session fun. He's a great story teller, has awesome patience with the newbies, and made the experience delightful. I highly recommend his games for first timers.

I had an amazing first D&D experience thanks to Chris. As a new player, he was patient and explained the mechanics in a way that made sense. Most importantly, Chris created a welcoming environment where everyone felt included.

How to prepare

1. Dungeons & Dragons is a lot of fun. Here are a few questions that you can ask yourself before our game: - What kind of person would be fun to play? - What would this person do different from the "real me"? - What would this person do exactly like the "real me"? - What kind of adventures would I enjoy the most? Besides that: Be open to the world and other players - and you will have a lot of fun in our two hours adventure. :) 2. This is the "tech" you need to play: - A FREE roll20.net account. ( I can help) - Chrome - Microphone - Speaker or Headset - Internet Any questions left? Feel free to reach out and ask!

What I provide

We will play on a platform called "Roll20". I will provide all neccessary maps, handouts, tokens etc. The only things that YOU need are: - A FREE roll20.net account. ( I can help) - Chrome - Microphone - Speaker or Headset - Internet - Curiousity & Fun

Gameplay details

I want you to enjoy playing Dungeons & Dragons. That's why I make you these two promises: 1. I take your hand and guide you through the "mechanics" of how Dungeons & Dragons is played. 2. I make sure to avoid scenes or themes that you feel uncomfortable with. For example: I never want to see children suffer. That's why I will never include scenes in my games where that would happen. Before we start playing I will talk to you personally - and you can tell me any topics that you would like me to avoid.

How will character creation work

This is a one-time adventure with the goal to "get you playing". Therefore I strongly recommend you use one of the already prepared characters: - A cleric (Healing, Magic) - a wizard (powerful magic) - a fighter (hit hard) or - a rogue (good at hiding, but also lying to people.) If you really, really, REALLY want to create your own character for this game - let me know and we find some time before the game to set you up. This will take at least 30 minutes, though. We also have a short "Session Zero" at the beginning of the game. That's simply a short conversation where we: - Explain basic principles of the game - Check for topics that you want me to avoid (for example: Spiders or in my case: I will NEVER let children suffer in my stories.) - and most importantly: Answer all the questions that you have! ;) (Don't worry - you learn how to play very fast - once you actually play and have a human being to answer you questions that come up on the spot. :) ) Sounds good? :) Then I wait for you to book your game - and we take it from there! :) I wish you joy. Chris
