Curse of Strahd - Dark Moon (Beginner Friendly)

Curse of Strahd - Dark Moon (Beginner Friendly)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

(Beginner Friendly, Session time and day are subject to change based on player needs.) The Count is dead, to begin with. There was no doubt whatever about that. Strahd has fallen some time ago, the adventures that finally put the mad vampire in the ground left as quickly as they arrived; leaving one fact in their wake: Strahd was dead as a door nail. Hope had finally come to Barovia; yet, why did the mist remain? The foreboding air still hung heavily. The skies are particularly thick this time of year, a lunar event is to take place any day now. An eclipse of the moon is set to take place! And with this incredible darkness; a foul ritual is set to take place. Forces loyal to the vile old count still lurk. Plotting, scheming and hunting. But for what? Discover what in time or that glimmer of hope Barovia has gained will be snuffed out yet again.

New review

Andy's games are amazing! Great balance of combat and roleplay and the worldbuilding is so cool. Very inclusive, LGBT storylines are welcome and handled appropriately. NPCs feel well-fleshed out and like real people. Fights can be challenging but in a way that is fun rather than overwhelming, especially for high-level campaigns. If you like complex/engaging stories, horror elements, and unique combat scenarios that reward real-world problem solving skills, he's your dream DM.

Andy is a fantastic DM. His story telling will keep you engaged. He handles hard topics in a safe manner and he always make everyone feel included. I always look forward to our weekly game!

Andy is incredibly welcoming to new players, consistently managing to balance varying skill levels at his table. Encourages players to play the way they want to, instead of the way that is easiest for him to manage. Very creative both story telling and encounter building.

Incredibly creative and flexible. Always excited to work in and build on your cool ideas. Have been playing consistently in his world for almost a decade and still have corners I'm excited to explore

How to prepare

Characters will start at lvl3, using either the 2014 or 2024 rules. We'll hold a session 0 and have a discord server for anything and everything Campaign related. I'll work with each player to build out their character. If you're a new player just let me know and I'll be happy to walk you through the process. Anything official is up for use. I don't mess with homebrew character options much. Character sheets will be hosted on roll20 but if you have a personal method, D&D beyond or a physical sheet, you can use that to track things. I'd just need the roll20 sheet and the personal method to match up.

What I provide

Monsters will be monsters. That said I prefer things to be freaky and weird rather than overly gross. More Resident Evil than Saw for example. When running combat I like to make it a challenge but not overwhelming. Some monsters will play to the party's strengths while others will be included to prod at weaknesses. Combat is where I like to stick to rules the hardest but even then might bend on a few things here and there. I won't do a voice for every NPC and some minor conversations will be glossed over (Don't need to rp out renting a room at an inn for example) but some will either if they're important or I just think it'd be fun to give an npc a voice. It might be more common for an npc to have a preferred method of talking rather than a full accent. No I am not the best at accent so some might sound a bit silly. Under no condition will sexual content be described or roleplayed.

Gameplay details

Hello adventurers! The Mists of Barovia welcome you. In this game you'll find plenty of: Horrific monsters, cults, darkness, the last scraps of hope clinging to the light and the heroes that've stumbled into the mists. There will be plenty of tense and horrible things that are expected to take place in a Horror setting like this but we need not let it be all doom and gloom. Where there is a glint of light there is the echo of laughter as well.

How will character creation work

A mic is required, but a camera isn't. Personal choice to use a camera or not. You'll need roll20 and discord accounts as well. You don't have to create a character ahead of session 0 but will need one before the first session. Session 0 is also free. If you don't like the vibe of myself or the rest of the group no harm, no loss. For new players: It'd be nice if you knew some rules a bit before getting into things but if not, no big deal. Plenty of time to learn during the game.
