Fight the Kraken, or join it

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

This game is mature, grim and riddled with dry humour. We want to be telling a tale that takes itself seriously while never leaving a joke too far behind. The story takes place on a peninsula where a handful of clans fight for supremacy. The geography is a mixture of Jungle terrain and Snow-peak mountains (think New Zealand), with a couple of villages, encampments and a single large port city. Our story begins, as one of the villages is silently besieged by an uncanny & unprecedented foe, an adult Kraken. There's actually two separate ways our story can begin, this will be decided by the players(if the players cannot reach a consensus via dialogue, a vote is instilled): 1. The players are under the Kraken's influence, soldiers in its oceanic army. Therefore your choice of race must be an aquatic being. 2. The players are members of the weakest clan on the peninsula. A clan comprised of mostly Goblins. Your race is limited to Goblin or Half-Orc(Orc if using 2024 sourcebook). The experience is entirely theatre of the mind focused, because I find any additional apps get in the way of immersion(fun). We will be playing through Discord. - TTRPG: D&D 5e - Main themes: dark fantasy, gritty fantasy, mystery, intrigue, horror - Strong focus on player's backstories (if provided) - Crunchy traditional turn based combat is kept to a minimum (because it destroys the story's momentum, no player at my table will be yawning), instead we opt for a more cinematic approach to action (while still respecting the original ruleset, to a degree). - Session zero is free of charge

New review

He is incredible at theater of the mind and pretty lenient when things are unclear, allows creativity to flow rampant. Me and my two friends liked it a lot.

Ivan is a fantastic Dungeon Master with his best feat being the very impressive storytelling. The was he immerses you into his world is a quality many dm's lack; While he is phenomenal at it. His ideas directly compete with his improvisation, and you can never tell what he wrote or taught of. Doing a premade module would be something he would be awesome at. To finish... i always enjoy sitting at his table and is definetly one of the best if not the best dungeon masters i have played with, and i have played with alot. Cheers

A master ambience and storyteller builder. Light on the rules and super-friendly for new players.

His games are particular, very reactive to any shenanigans we pulled. Small decision we made would lead to funny and grounded quests, he probably improvised most of it on the fly. Clearly knows the ruleset and allows players to come up with ideas which are stylishly implemented in the story. His pacing is strong, never felt there was a boring section. Ivan allows me to be creative and freestyle, which in turn makes me actually care for my PC. Which is what I need in my DM.

Good DM, knows how to interact with other players, master of homebrew (if needed), takes you on a magical journey, good speaker, even better storyteller.

Having a privilege of being in a few sessions, I must say that every time I had a blast. Strong roleplaying, mixed with tactical fights that usually arent overdone, is what led me to always join Ivan's adventure with a smile on my face(which faded during session, if I died hehe). The best thing is, he adapts to players ideas and imagination, which makes you want more and more. Would recommend for for all, especially beginners. 5/5
