Wardens of Wildwood! Pathfinder 2 REMASTER level 5-14 adventure

Wardens of Wildwood! Pathfinder 2 REMASTER level 5-14 adventure

Pathfinder 2e | Campaign

About the adventure

In this adventure path for Pathfinder 2, players defend the peace between the woodland inhabitants of the Verduran forest and the neighboring nations of Andoran and Taldor! This is a nature-themed setting is perfect for beginners and experience players alike, especially those wanting to play rare or uncommon ancestries like awakened animals and centaurs. This adventure highlights both what you might expect from the forest setting and also throws in quite a few curveball appearances from creatures and settings you may not expect. What seems like a local conflict eventually spirals into events that threaten to shake the foundations of the planes themselves! As with most of Paizo's published adventures, this adventure path does not require much knowledge of the setting or its history, but players that do possess a deeper understanding of Golarion will notice quite a few references and may reach some logical conclusions a bit ahead of schedule. This is my favorite type of adventure, local in scale but with ramifications that meaningfully impact the rest of the setting and allow for the players to leave their mark in the game. The adventure has a wonderful and diverse cast of characters, both helpful and antagonistic. My personal favorite is Livi Leapingheart, an adorable awakened rabbit the party meets after the first act. I've also added a few characters of my own to my Wardens of Wildwood games to farther establish a few elements of the adventure I was most interested in. Whether Wardens of Wildwood has anything to say politically is up to each person who plays it, but it is safe to say that the conflict in the adventure is political. Themes of justified resistance, national identity, injustice, and racism are absolutely present. Unknown powers are stoking the flames of resentment and distrust within the Verduran forest, and the party has to engage with this throughout the adventure. I've had feedback from people having played this adventure with me that it can be a little cathartic to roll initiative against some of the antagonists of the adventure due to the aforementioned themes, and I understand how they feel. Paizo tends to split their adventures into low and high level blocks, and the ending level of 13 is about right to flow into their higher level adventures if players want to continue with the same characters after Wardens of Wildwood ends. It remains to be seen if I am right as of time of writing, but there seems to be a well-fitting followup adventure for higher levels that is set in the close-by elven nation of Kyonin. I expect to lead many Wardens of Wildwood games into Spore War.

I've played and co-run and run games with Arty for a few years now so I may be a little biased when I say, Arty is probably one of the best GM's I've ever seen (certainly better than me). He is litigious when it comes to any rules set that he intends to run, but continuously adapts to any situation to create the most enjoyable experience he can while running. Strike while the irons hot, because Arty is going to be everyone's go to GM once they've played with him. Could be better at voices though...

Arty is a creative and comical DM wiz! Love his energy and surprisingly vast knowledge of a variety of role playing games. D&D w Arty has elevated Wed night date night to new hights of fun.

Arty, AKA Cannon has been running a public 5e D&D campaign at my bar for the past two years now, and he does a fantastic job. He's always early to work and always stays late. He's quite knowledgeable of the game, has a delightful, easygoing personality that lends itself to the job, and he has a wonderful sense of humor. Arty facilities fun and challenging sessions, allowing for some flexibility with the rules, especially when it makes the session that much more fun vis-a-vis creative roleplaying. Speaking of roleplaying, he typically shows up in costume, which adds so much to the ambiance! He's also a top notch artist, and he draws these incredible pictures illustrating the challenges that lie ahead that we project on to our big screen tv before each session, which adds a lot to the feel of the game. I can't recommend Arty enough for your gaming needs - he's a true pro who obviously enjoys his job, and he's got a job at our bar (Covert Café in Portland, Oregon) for as long as he wants it. 5 legit stars!

How to prepare

Please read the Wardens of Wildwood player's guide before session 0. https://downloads.paizo.com/WardensofWildwood_PlayersGuide.pdf A microphone connected to your computer is required. A webcamera is recommended, but I do not require it. We'll be using the websites Owlbear.rodeo, pathbuilder2e.com, and Discord. You can download Discord or use the web client, and you will need a discord account to play. Owlbear does not require an account but you do gain some features for the website if you do have one. I recommend paying for the upgraded pathbuilder2e experience, but paying is not required. I recommend purchasing a set of dice from a local game store or online, but they are not required.

What I provide

I own the physical and digital versions of the adventure and run them over the virtual tabletop Owlbear Rodeo. That means I have a map for you to navigate, pdfs and other documents you can use during the game, and tokens to represent you and the enemies on the map. Player-side content for pathfinder 2e is free, but for the best experience I recommend a paid pathbuilder 2 account for best access to the features of the character builder. I require characters be built in pathbuilder 2 and that they be connected to me using the 'connect to gm' feature so I may view them during the game (that part is free to players). Pathfinder 2 is perfect for tactical combat and I love to see players infuse their choices in combat with fitting roleplay. I try to stick to the rules of the game when they apply and allow for experimental use of your actions when there isn't a fitting rule to go with. I try to reward inventive strategy and don't expect you to build optimally, or even well. I'm not a professional voice actor, but I try to give each npc a unique sound to make it more engaging to interact with them all.

Gameplay details

Session 0 is primarily a place I use to facilitate the party's character lineup and to set expectations for the rest of the games going forward. I like to get to know my players a little before we dive into things and session 0 is the best way I've found to help me do that. The safety tools I use can be expressed either in text or voice. I try to keep the exact method of delivery up to each player so they can use what is most comfortable for them. Gameplay is handled via Owlbear Rodeo maps for combat. Handouts go over discord, as does voice, text and video during the game.

How will character creation work

If you are a beginner, please book me so we can go through character creation process and basic rules before the game. I require characters be built in pathbuilder 2e. I don't use any homerules or alternate options for character creation. Remember: Ask me about any uncommon or rare option you want to take before getting married to it. The player guide for the adventure will give you a good idea of what I am likely to be okay with taking. Remember to make a character that wants to be here, and will want to adventure with the party. This adventure has you start at level 5, with normal starting wealth for that level.
