About me

When I was first introduced to tabletop gaming, I was captivated by the unique narratives that emerged from simple dice rolls and communal storytelling. Years later my passion for the medium has only grown and I've found nothing else that gives me the same joy as being a game master. I enjoy weaving each character's background into the adventures and finding ways to help players feel like the world their characters inhabit is truly changed by their actions. I started running games with Palladium's Rifts, and not long after found Dungeons and Dragons and spent many years running D&D's 5th edition adventures. The last several years I have found Pathfinder 2e a perfect fit for my style of game mastery and it has become my system of choice. I'm comfortable running for brand new players or experienced table-top role playing game (ttrpg) veterans. I adapt games to the group, so we can get as deep into or as far away from the mechanical crunch of whatever system we play. I always look for ways to do some manner of service in the communities I'm in, and GMing games is just another example. I was a camp counselor (where I ended up teaching a lot of the kids Magic: The Gathering) and I've spent several years as a tournament organizer for organized video game competition. I hold degrees for video production and multimedia, and work as a freelance producer and crew for live broadcasts of video game tournaments.

GM Style

I believe gaming is at its best when the party's creativity is blended with the rules of the system. In any given session, I try to provide an even distribution of both combat and social encounters, and when it fits well I allow for downtime for characters to develop longer term projects or goals. I highly encourage roleplay during combat. I find combat far more satisfying when it features in-character decisions that might not exactly be "optimal" but do help tell a story. I reward creative thinking and strategic play in combat, but just because a plan is very out there doesn't mean it will be a guaranteed success! I run a mix of published adventures and custom content. I prefer to start parties with a published adventure in order to get an idea of the dynamic and unique character of a group so I can adjust and bring tailored homebrew later on in the campaign. I tend to keep things within established universes (ex: Faerun, Golarian, Rifts Earth) and prefer that players do the same. I have been known to import elements from other settings in my homebrew, but the focus of a given campaign generally remains on a single universe. I strongly prefer players stick with officially published and released options for their characters. You can roll dice however you like, whatever you are most comfortable with is best. I like to use physical dice even when gaming on the internet. I only allow Player vs Play (PvP) if it is entirely consensual and I judge that it doesn't disrupt the game too much. Your characters should want to be adventuring together, should be willing to participate in the adventure, and should not seek to sabotage the other players or the party's success. On the other hand, I am happy to have the party as a whole or a particular character be an absolute menace for the non-player characters (NPCs) of the game, as long as the game can continue to flow and be fun for all. I always want my players to be comfortable and happy during my games. If something in the game or associated with the game is ever making anyone uncomfortable I want people to feel safe speaking up. If someone flags an element of a scene or encounter as making them too uncomfortable, we will rewind or skip that element. To understand what to avoid in the future I may check in with that player after the game. I set community norms when we start games to agree how we can all help promote a safe and fun experience. When players are respectful of one another's time and agree to avoid allowing interpersonal arguments to bleed into the game, everyone benefits.
