Mu/Th/Ur Knows Best - Alien: RPG

Alien: The Roleplaying Game | Campaign

About the adventure

"I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies." The year is 2183, that business with Hadley's Hope has been the hot topic around the Holo. The crazies out there have been going on about some kind of new bio-weapon from some Weyland-Yutani black site, but rumors like that are a dime a dozen, and reactors overload all the time. Probably some disgruntled pencil pusher got passed over for a promotion one too many times. Not that you have any time for that, contracts to pick up, chips to cash in, and better worlds to build. Alien: The Roleplaying Game pulls the classic sci-fi franchise out of the silver screen and onto your table (well virtual table in this case). Using Free League's "Year Zero Engine", Alien: RPG captures the tense space horror and action packed combat from the movies. Discover new worlds and alien pathogens as a scientist, mow down enemies as a marine, or fly a ship breaking out of low orbit as a pilot!

How to prepare

A Mic is necessary but a webcam isn't! I'll likely be on camera, but don't feel pressured to be as well if that's not your thing! The only program you'll need access to is Discord, other than that, I just recommend a solid internet connection. All other preparation for the game/system will happen in Session 0.

What I provide

I'll provide an invite to a private Discord Server where we will use voice and text chat, and video if you'd like! All you need is an internet capable device (desktop/laptop preferred, but a tablet will work as well, smart phones are more difficult) and a discord account! I will also be providing a link to FoundryVTT where I host a server. This will include maps, tokens, and digital content. I like to use ambient music and the occasional character voice, and include moderately tactical combat. I try to stick to the rules as much as I can, but at the end of the day, the Rule of Cool takes preference. If there's a rule in the game that allows for what you're trying to accomplish, let's try sticking to that until it breaks, but if not, let's do whatever feels fun.

Gameplay details

Session 0 - The first session will mainly go over basic rules, character sheets (character creation if you'd like, but pre-generated characters will be available as well), and general housekeeping things before beginning the campaign! Luxton Technique - Session 0 will include a brief discussion of triggers and topic/subject matter that are off limits. This is a time for players to bring up any content that they'd like to avoid, no questions asked. If there's a potential trigger that might be too prevalent within the story, this will be the time to discuss! X - I like to handle X cards two different ways; digital and physical. Players are welcome to choose between the two whichever works best for them. Have a note card or piece of paper with an X drawn on it, then whenever you need, just hold that up to your camera. Alternatively, I like to keep an eye on the chat so if a physical card isn't your thing, or you prefer to stay off camera, just type "X" into the chat, and we can pause gameplay to work through the situation. Open Door and Breaks - At any point during the game, please feel free to momentarily step away from the game to de-stress, grab a drink/snack, use the restroom, or just stretch! On that same note, if something has come up in the game that might not be X worthy, but still feels like it warrants discussion, we can pause gameplay at any point to talk. Debriefing and Stars And Wishes - At the end of each session I like to hold a few minutes to discuss what went well and what could be better! Stars and Wishes are great for this, and debriefing fills in the gaps that Stars and Wishes might not cover. If you'd like, I can also create an anonymous survey to fill out to leave feedback about sessions going forward! The game is only good if we are ALL having fun, so if even one person feels like they want to talk about something, let's take care of it as soon as possible.
