About the adventure

Icewind Dale is the frostbitten end of the world. The windswept tundra in the region is the true test of one’s mettle. It’s survival of the fittest! Ten small towns have managed to survive so far by learning to respect the weather... But as the winter is getting harsher and harsher, and the nights become longer, town folk start to believe that the Frostmaiden, A Goddess— and a cold-hearted one— stands behind this brutal change.... Desperate, they seek White Clerics' advice and start to offer sacrifices to the Goddess... food, lives, the little they still have... As sacrifices are offered every New Moon... Sanity is falling apart... Desperation becoming common place... You are a traveller that bought a one way ticket to Icewind Dale... Why? What is your motivation? Investigate the mystery? Help the Dale folk? Search the hidden secrets and uncover the prophecy of the Lost Tomb? Join a caravan travelling from Luskan to Bryn Shander and find yourself in the middle of a complex, dark, and daunting puzzle that threat the Ten Towns of extinction...

About me

If I were a Character, I'd say.... Race: Human, Latin American (but I'd rather be an Elf). Background: University professor. Class: Game Master. Sub-class: Dungeon Master (D&D since 1st ed... Currently 5e). I like to DM as much I like to play. And I like creating homebrew rules and worlds as much as I like knowing Rules-as-written (RAW) and official adventures. So I'd say I'm Lawful Good. I go by the rules, but my Good alignment urges me to use Rule-of-Cool if that improves gameplay and player engagement. As a DM, I will work to embed players in the storyline, weaving their backgrounds into the main campaign even in official adventures (after all, they all need adjustments anyway). I'm looking to collectively build amazing stories and experiences while rolling dice. We must remember that dice bring the unexpected into our game and help creating unforgettable moments! Let's roll some dice!

I started playing with Leo a few years ago and I haven't stopped since. He manages to accomplish one of the biggest challenges for a DM, the ability to absorb the players ideas/wants and introduce/adapt them into the game in a coherent and fair way, prioritizing fun without breaking the rules. Leo has an incredible ability to listen to players and adjust the game to ensure everyone has their moment to shine, without letting the focus of the story get lost. Always paying attention to the actions and positions of the characters to understand them better, remembering things accurately, rewarding creativity. Just writing about it makes me excited for my next session. Just go for it!

I've had the pleasure of playing in Leo's DnD campaign for about two years now, and I can confidently say he is the best DM I've had in online sessions. He is incredibly patient, always making sure everyone feels included and engaged. His problem-solving skills are S tier, and he has a clever way of handling any situation that arises in the game. On top of that, his deep experience with DnD shines through in every session, and he is an expert when it comes to lore and rules of the game. I'd recomend him for any type of player, new or experienced! He is that great!

Leo has been an amazing GM so far! I was nervous about joining a more professional game as I’m fairly new to D&D but he immediately made me feel super comfortable. I appreciated having a session zero because it really helped me prepare for joining the game. He didn’t shut down any of my ideas for my character and gave me a really good preview of Foundry which I had never used before. He takes us through each session at a nice pace and has no problem pausing to explain things if we need help. His rule additions help keep the game exciting and his storytelling is really immersive. I also really appreciate his Discord server as a great place to keep in touch between sessions. For my first time on Start Playing I think I hit the jackpot of best DMs.

Returning to DnD after a 20+ year break and Leo has been great. Really took his time with an extended session zero to walk me thru the basics of Foundry and has continued that patience and teaching thru the sessions. I love that he lets the players set the pace. I'm sure we've zoomed past some scenes that he expected some more RP out of and I know for sure we've slowed some things down at times and spent a lot longer poking into other things, but he rolls with it and adapts without pressuring anything to go in a direction or meet a milestone. Very happy to have gotten a DM of this caliber and caring to jump back into things!

Having played at his tables for years, I can confidently say Dagemas is an exceptional GM. His creativity, engaging storytelling, and improvisational skills ensure that every game is dynamic and exciting. Additionally, his attention to detail and ability to tailor challenges to the players make each session memorable.

A wonderfully considerate, creative, and technically savvy DM. Anyone would be lucky to have them manning the helm of their campaign. He is great and you should feel safe in his hands!

Character creation
Creating your character

Characters start at Level 1, roll stats or take point buy if you dislike the rolls. Character creation is on DNDBeyond where you have 24x7 free access to approx all Official WotC Material. If you have never used DnDbeyond we will create the character together in Session Zero/Prologue. The Campaign spans from Level 1 to 12 (expect 45-50 sessions), but can be expanded up to Level 20 on a follow-up extension I have designed if the groups agrees on continuing.

The current party
! ONE HERO WANTED ! We just had 6 Sessions. PCs are now Level 3 and the Party looks like this: - Dwarf Cleric (Forge) - Elf Wizard (Bladesinger) - Orc Ranger (Beast master) - Tiefling Druid (Moon) - Gith Fighter (Battle master) Players have only explored two of the ten towns. [ Take advantage of my experience as both player and DM playing/running this Campaign back-to-back already... You won't regret! ]
What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need a mic and accounts created on Discord and DNDBeyond (both free!). Links will be provided once you register. Foundry is accessed via a weblink, so no account needed. Characters can be created in DNDBeyond as soon as you get the link, but we will jointly finalized it during Session Zero. Once you join, you will also receive a guidebook to Icewind Dale and some suggestions for Character creation, background, and motivation. You can bring any character concept you want, and I will help you tie them to the storyline.
