Death House One Shot - Beginner Friendly CoS Taste Test

Death House One Shot - Beginner Friendly CoS Taste Test

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

-- On average, this one shot takes 2 sessions to complete -- ________________________________________________________________ In this one shot your character will be part of a small band of mercenaries, sent to investigate an old manor house - the one common thread in a string of disappearances in the town of Daggerford. Your task will be to brave the manor, solve its mysteries, and slay whatever horrors await you inside! ________________________________________________________________ This one shot is taken from the beginning of the Curse of Strahd campaign, which I will also be running. While there's no obligation to join that campaign afterwards, you can also view this one shot as a taster of the campaign, and my DMing style!

Barney is an amazing DM; beginner-friendly, amazing storytelling, and pacing. I would recommend him to anyone new to DnD and wants to have a great time. 10/10

It has been a great few sessions so far with Barney so far for me and honestly I can see I getting even better as everyone is getting more comfortable. The game really invoked the dark horror-ish vibe really well for me. Personally I feel great about these games and I do look forward to them every week now. If you want something more concrete than a player's personal feeling to decide, I can say this: - He did one of the best session 0 I've seen in a while. The in-game and off game expectations were set clear with visual documents and conversation from all sides - The game runs on Foundry smoothly, and you'd be well-instructed by Barney on how to use it. From the amount and quality of the mods and addons and handouts, you can tell this story was cared for and well-prepped - The story pace is well-kept, he kept the game moving on but also does keep giving prompt for players to jump in in key bits, or even the bits that might not be that key but make sense for a someone to jump in and interact - The combat pace is good too. So far the combat take about 1/3 of total play time. - The rules are followed fairly, with some graces for rules as intended and to new players or players getting use to their PCs.

Barney is the real deal. He breaks everything down clearly to help make session 0 go smoothly and make fully fleshed-out characters that will fit in the world while still leaving the players with full freedom to make the character that they want to play.

I've been playing D&D with Barney for 4 years. His campaigns are full of rich world-building and fascinating NPCs. He's great at immersing players in his stories and building tension in spooky settings. Combats are always interesting and well balanced, making for challenging encounters that help drive the story.

Barney has been a great DM for my last 2 campaigns - friendly, inclusive and focused on giving us a tailored experience (allowing for multiple combat encounters or rolling and roleplaying your way out of a sticky situation). Our table includes some people who are very familiar with the game and some who are quite new to it and he is able to balance all of that while giving us an engaging and detailed world to interact with. He's also flexible with roleplaying moments, giving space to talk in character but happy to be more general for those moments or players where performing as your character feels uncomfortable.

How to prepare

You will need: A Discord account A mic that is reliable and clear A stable internet connection Cameras are OPTIONAL but encouraged A computer that meets the minimum requirements for FoundryVTT If your computer struggles with memory issues, you may find it cannot load some of the high quality animated maps and scenes that I use in my game - resulting in a black screen instead of a battle map.

What I provide

I will be providing: - A server for FoundryVTT - Combat automation features - set to speed things up without reducing the number of rolls that you make as a player - Animated effects - HD animated maps by BeneosBattlemaps
