About the adventure
Icewind Dale is dying. For two agonizing years, the Everlasting Rime has smothered this frozen expanse in eternal darkness and an unrelenting blizzard of despair. The land gasps its final breaths under the icy grip of Auril the Frostmaiden, whose bitter wrath denies the sun’s light and plunges Ten-Towns into a perpetual twilight of suffering. The people of the Dale cling to life, their fires flickering weakly against the merciless cold. Food is scarce. Trust is fragile. Hope is dying. In this unforgiving wasteland, even the hardiest of souls are breaking, and the whispers of the dark grow louder with every passing day. Beyond the fragile sanctuary of Ten-Towns lies a wilderness teeming with deadly predators, unnatural horrors, and secrets buried deep beneath layers of frost and shadow. The ice itself seems alive, watching, waiting—its glacial silence hiding ancient evils that should have stayed forgotten. Survival here is not a given. It’s a battle, brutal and unrelenting. And as you struggle to endure the unforgiving elements, you must face an impossible question: Will you save this dying land—or will it claim you, body and soul? Welcome to the Forgotten Realms, a land of heroic quests, ancient mysteries, and relentless peril. Here, adventurers carve their legends amidst sprawling cities, untamed wilds, and treacherous ruins. Yet, no place is as hostile—or as alluring—as Icewind Dale, a region locked in a bitter, unrelenting winter by the divine wrath of Auril the Frostmaiden. Icewind Dale is dying. For two years, Auril's Everlasting Rime has suffocated the land in perpetual darkness, testing the endurance of the Ten-Towns community and all who dare call this frozen wasteland home. In this frigid frontier, survival is not promised. Every choice matters, and every secret harbored may hold the key to Icewind Dale’s salvation—or its final fall. ⚔️ What to Expect: A survival horror campaign set in the chilling wilderness of Icewind Dale. Dynamic exploration of the frozen north, from the sprawling Ten-Towns to the deadly Spine of the World. Encounters with frostbitten monstrosities, rival factions, and the looming wrath of Auril herself. A morally complex journey: Will your actions light a path to salvation—or hasten the Dale’s demise? Rich character-driven storytelling, focusing on personal growth, relationships, and the high stakes of survival.
Meet the Game Master
About me
Well met Adventurers! I am Avner, and I am excited to either introduce you to the world of tabletop role-playing or help you continue on your epic journey! I began DMing 10 years ago when I got tired of waiting for someone to run a D&D game and decided to learn how to run a game myself. I have been immersed in the hobby ever since. I have done my best to soak up any system I can get my hands on and do everything I can to spread the hobby that previously was much harder to get into. I started my dice rolling journey playing the Warhammer Quest and Hero Quest RPGs and now have since come to love the new 5e D&D system, Star Wars RPG, Pathfinder, Genesys, Cypher, World of Darkness and many more. What I find all these games have in common is it allows the players to tell a shared story with highs and lows that create memories that last years. I have also played in many different formats as well from throwing dice around a table or across a camera to using Roll 20, Fantasy Grounds and many more VVT options. I have even done my fair share of teaching people to play via play-by-post format. If there is a way to play I most likely have tried it. My passion for bringing the joy of the hobby to new players is unmatched, and I hope you give me the chance to bring that joy to you.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will occur during session zero however you are encouraged to brainstorm all of your best ideas in anticipation of the game. We will be using 27 point point-buy method of character creation or Standard Array. I will be allowing variable humans, feats, and Tasha's character creation rules (Floating ability score bonuses) to allow you to have the most creative characters you can think of that will really tie you to the story. All major published resources will be allowed, but I reserve the right to reject anything that doesn't meet the tone of the other players in the game. Before delving into the icy abyss, our Session 0 will help craft characters who feel deeply connected to the Dale’s peril: Are you a hardy local, born in the frozen wilds of Ten-Towns, or an outsider chasing glory, survival, or refuge? What drives you to face unspeakable horrors, and what secrets do you hide that might doom or save your companions? Goliath characters are welcome, hailing from the brutal peaks of the Spine of the World, where survival means enduring cruel nature, frost giants, and remorhazes. Players who choose to play as goliaths will choose to belong to one of two warring clans: Skytower Shelter (Akannathi): Fierce warriors and hunters, their grudges are as sharp as their weapons. Wyrmdoom Crag (Thuunlakalaga): Proud, resilient, and equally competitive, their feuds fuel their strength.

Safety
How Avner creates a safe table
During our first game we will go over the groups Lines and Veils as well as the other safety tools. During the game we will use X, Play, Pause, Skip, and Fast Forward cards to make sure everyone at the table is comfortable with the content at all times. During session 0 we will also introduce our characters as we build them together as well as our Stars and Wishes, which is basically what you would expect out of the perfect game. If at any time anyone needs to take a break there will be no judgement or repercussions if they need to step away and come back for their own safety. This is meant to be a fun and enjoyable environment as well, and the group will be expected to treat each other with respect and dignity throughout the play session.
