About the adventure

Play the acclaimed Season of Ghosts campaign with an experienced GM who has previously run the adventure and learned how to tailor it for an optimal player experience. Something strange is happening to your hometown of Willowshore! Situated in Tian Xia's haunted land of Shenmen, the people of Willowshore are no strangers to supernatural threat, but the danger that comes to town on the first day of summer is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Willowshore has a distinctive tradition called the "Reenactment Festival" to celebrate the end of spring and ward off evil spirits and ghosts prior to the height of supernatural activity in early summer. The townsfolk attempt to trick the spirits into thinking someone has already haunted the settlement, with faux ghosts bringing their voluntary victims out to the surrounding Spectrewood. But this year things seem to have gone horribly wrong, with the characters (in the role of abductees) returning to find Willowshore plunged into chaos and quite unlike they had left it. Over the four seasons to come, you and your fellow home-grown heroes must face evil spirits, sinister fiends, and frightening curses, lest the town of Willowshore succumb to the Season of Ghosts! Season of Ghosts is a four-part East Asian horror-themed adventure path that will take players from levels 1 to 12. In addition to the cultural angle, SoG is unique among Pathfinder 2nd Edition adventures in that it takes place essentially within a single location over an extended period of time. As such, you will have the opportunity to develop intimate relationships with NPCs and locations around this tiny settlement. While there are certainly opportunities to hack and slash, the role playing element truly shines in this adventure.

About me

My name is Wade, a.k.a. the Battle Barrister, and I have been playing D&D on and off since the ancient times of the red Basic Set and AD&D 1st edition. I came back to the fold and started playing 5e regularly following a spinal cord injury, and have now come to enjoy life behind the DM screen. Over the past few years my interests have shifted to playing and running Pathfinder 2e. I find it to be an elegant system and enjoy teaching new players. I have recently become what I like to term a semi-pro GM and am making the transition from Roll20 to Foundry.

Character creation

Creating your character

We can create characters together in Discord ahead of time and/or during a session zero (typically people bring some general ideas ahead of time, and we can hammer out party composition during session 0). Characters will start at 1st level. For those not familiar with Foundry, the PF2e module provides access to all Paizo materials and you can drag and drop ancestries, feats, backgrounds, etc. into your sheet. Typically I follow the pattern of: Common - fine Uncommon- probably good but ask first Rare - convince me To clarify, this process applies to the various Paizo rulebooks. Character creation options from adventures other than the current one are unlikely to be approved. (Conversely, uncommon and rare options from the Season of Ghosts player guide are fine.) Unlike most Adventure Paths, Season of Ghosts takes place almost entirely in and near the village of Willowshore and assumes the PCs are all long-term citizens of this settlement. The history of Willowshore, the significant people and places, and even the local prejudices all come into play. Thus, your character should have a strong connection to Willowshore, preferably living in the area for at least a few years. We can work on this in session 0, and discuss things like associations with local people or organizations, and even amongst the party members. We will be using the following variant rules: - Free Archetype (Dedication at Level 2) - Gradual ability boosts - Automatic Rune Progression? (TBD) - Free background lore boosts - Expertise in medicine gives you the Continual Recovery feat for free

The current party

We are halfway through Book 2 and a player had to drop out. It’s a good time to join the adventure, as the game is about to open up and some major truths revealed. The party recently hit level 5, and should level up again after a few more sessions. I can easily get you up to speed with the story and ready to hit the ground running. Current party composition is human flame oracle, human bard, tengu cleric, and tengu rogue.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Not much preparation is required. If you are familiar with Pathfinder 2e rules, great, but otherwise I can teach you the basics as we go. There is a short player guide for this adventure, which includes local information and helpful recommendations for player options. Definitely read through this document (available for download from the Paizo website, and I will provide a copy in the Discord server). In terms of technology you will just need a reasonably modern computer, along with a headset/microphone for audio through Discord. You will obviously need a Discord account, and to create an account for logging into Foundry through my hosting instance Once invited to the game, the group and I will chat on Discord about the outline of the adventure, character creation, and general nonsense to get to know one another.

What Wade brings to the table

I have the Foundry VTT reliably self-hosted, along with the official Season of Ghosts game package purchased through Paizo/Foundry. This includes high-quality maps, engrossing ambient sounds and music, and a full compendium for Pathfinder and the adventure. (I am still mastering Foundry, but am almost there) I have installed a judicious collection of helpful Foundry modules, and am open to further suggestions. The game audio will be run through Discord, and I maintain an active discussion server. I do have some physical limitations with my hands. I have managed to find some workarounds, but I ask for your patience at times. I try to create memorable NPCs with unique personalities and voices, and tailor the story to the characters. I generally stick to rules as written with Pathfinder 2e, since it is such an intricately balanced game. Particularly creative actions and solutions will generally be rewarded, though. We will run the PF2e remaster rules to the extent possible. I have a few house rules that are player friendly, including free archetype and gradual ability boosts. Lastly, all are welcome at my tables and I do my best to make everyone have a comfortable, fun experience!

Homebrew rules

In addition to Free Archetypes and Gradual Ability Boosts, which are “official” variant rules, I use the following homebrewed rules. - Automatic Rune Progression? (TBD) - Free background lore boosts - Expertise in medicine gives you the Continual Recovery feat for free - Two hero points per session - Recovery checks our private rolls that only the GM and player can see

Safety

How Wade creates a safe table

I have a list of player expectations and safety protocols in my discord server and we can go over specifics during session zero. Notably, Season of Ghosts involves an emphasis on supernatural events, undead creatures, and mental manipulation, so you may be uncomfortable if these themes disturb you. My games have a 10 minute break about midway through the session. Players are encouraged to (publicly or privately) request a break if they are uncomfortable with the game material or discussion. If you need a break for other reasons, we will likely continue the game to the extent possible (other players have paid to be there, after all). My door is always open for discussion. Never feel bad about communicating your critiques, problems, issues with other players, etc. to me. I believe that most problems can be handled through communication.
