About the adventure

Corporate Headhunters have hired you and your comrades, now a rag-tag band of spacers, gear jockeys ex-marines, fringe scientists, and last year model synthetics, out of Prospero's Dream, a Mafia-run X-Class station where every breath costs and any mistake could be your last. Your mission: to seek out and find the Alexis, a high value archeology ship that according to its last message had made a high value find and was lost on its jump cycle back. After plenty of searching and spent resources your crew is fairly certain that you've found it orbiting an uncharted and uninteresting world, a Dead Planet that only shows up on a handful of the old independent rotas. All that stands between you and your payday now is a quick jump to its coordinates, some brief recon and repairs, and a bit of time in cryo while you fly it on home. What could be easier? Dead Planet is a campaign length module for the Mothership TTRGP by Tuesday Night Games. Mothership is a sci-fi horror setting taht uses a rules light d100 system with quick and easy to learn character creation and play. Character death is a real risk, fear, stress, sanity and all manners of horror are on the table. Once completed we will have the option to continue with other larger modules including: Gradient Descent A Pound of Flesh Desert Moon of Karth Tide World of Mani Another Bug Hunt He Who Dwells in the Black Sun And other modules....

About me

I've been playing and running tabletop games since the mid 1990s. I loved creating and running stories for my friends, as well as fun and interesting characters to be a part of a shared story (and to provide a little entertainment for whomever was running the game as well). Over the last 25 plus years I've enjoyed meeting new friends and making connections playing in person and online. I see the process of running a game as a way to build connections with people and to have a shared experience where the goal is to have fun creating a shared story. As a game master, my role is to facilitate the world that your characters find themselves in To make it an interesting, fun, engaging place that you want to be a part of and explore regardless of if we are playing a full campaign, short campaign, or a one shot. Im a married father of 3, language and humanities teacher, former writer and annoncer for radio. Table top games are my one big hobby. I've taken the time to familiarize myself with Roll20 Foundry and Owlebear Rodeoover the last few years during the pandemic. I am a big proponent of providing a safe space for games regardless of background and not exceeding comfort zones. I believe that any game I run should be a safe space for any player regardless of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age or other demographic grounds. I believe in open communication as well as the rule of cool, and while I will often default to the rules or at the very least the spirit of them, I will gladly bend them for something interesting that makes the game more enjoyable for all. I believe the ability to improvise is just as important as the ability to plan and I try to find a solid balance between combat, social roleplay, exploration, and investigation. I do occasionally run Dungeons and Dragons 5E but much prefer Numenera, Mothership, Altais, and the Multitude of Settings available for Savage Worlds and Tiny D6 (and intend to put together a number of Free learn to play one shots for these systems in the coming days).

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation can be a part of Session 0, or players can be selected from the list of pregens (first posted first picked) We will need roughly 6 different characters for the first 6 adventures. It is preferred that after session 0 new characters are submitted no less than 24 hours prior to game night. I am fully able to assist and make my self available via chat to help with making characters one on one or as part of a larger group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A decent internet connection (good enough to run discord with voice) is all that is really needed. Video is optional but not required (some prefer not using it to conserve bandwidth). Having some dice on hand (2d10 and 1d20) is also recommended. The free version of the Mothership Companion App is a plus, but by no means a requirement.

What Devin brings to the table

I like to create an immersive setting using sounds effects, ambient music, detailed descriptions, and character voices. I'm a pretty relaxed GM and always open to creative solutions (and in Mothership, creative solutions or evasions tend to work far better than direct confrontation, its a pretty lethal game). I don't make folk role for every little thing, typically only when failure might cause a notable change in the story or when the consequences of failure are serious. Failure itself doesn't always mean a lack of success, in Mothership if often means success with unfortunate consequences. You can expect combat to have consequences. I am always happy to slow down or pause play to help clear up any confusion of how to play or potential options in a situation. I frequently work with and teach new players. The server will have a dice roller as well as pregens. I also make use of the discord whiteboard from time to time. I have the Mothership Companion Pro so am able to take any character you create on the companion (free or pro) and produce it for you.

Safety

How Devin creates a safe table

Lines and Veils can be found on listed on the discord server, you are free to add your own or contact me to add them anonymously. In Session ) we will go over character creation and gameplay expectations as well as a brief discussion as to why are characters are on this mission/a part of this crew. We will then jump into the adventure. At the end of each session we like to have a brief discussion of how we all felt about the game and anything that we would like to share. At the start of each subsequent session I typically do a little recap and check in before play. Its important to me to make sure that the table. virtual or otherwise, is a safe and fun place for everyone.
