About the adventure

With the rise of the automobile in the 1920s, people were no longer tied to the railways as a means of getting to distant locations. For those who could afford the relative luxury of a car, the expanding United States’ highway network brought with it the opportunity to travel and see new places, as well as visit those that the railways didn’t reach—and all at your own pace, too. But the new road network also meant that strangers began making their way into once isolated and secluded locations. Places where they may not be welcome, and where old secrets have been hidden for generations. Who knows what lurks behind the lace curtains of the houses you drive past? What dangers lie in wait for the unwary along the out of the way highways and byways? 💀☠💀☠💀☠💀 In this classic Call of Cthulhu scenario, now revised, a chance encounter with a distressed young woman leads the investigators into the hideous aftermath of a crime gone terribly wrong. Pregenerated investigators will be available, will be happy to meet one-on-one with you if you're new to the game. (Image from tor's emporium: https://www.patreon.com/c/torsemporium/home/)

About me

I strive to be a place where players new and experienced can come and tell stories together in a safe, fun environment, and I have over 30 years of TTRPG experience that I use to bring these desires to the table. What I want for my players is simple; to have fun, however I am able to provide that to them. I espeically want players who have had bad table experiences in the past or players who have struggled with neurodiversity issues to find their TTRPG "home" with me. I like to joke that my DM/GM aesthetic is "dad jokes and innuendo", but I also strive to make the experience as immersive as the players wish it to be/are able to process. It is my sincerest wish that we start as clients, but end up friends, whether it's a one-shot or a campaign. I look forward to sharing a table with you soon.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players new to the game will be given pre-generated characters for this mini-campaign so they can focus on learning game play. If there is a specific archetype you would like to play, please check with me, and time willing I'm happy to make a character for you. Those who wish to create their own character can use the QuickStart character creation rules found in CoC 7th Edition. Please check with me before doing this, especially if we are within 24 hours of gametime. The character sheets on Roll20 are interactive and are used to make the skill and ability checks needed to play.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have access to a desktop/laptop computer (or at least a larger tablet with Chrome or similar browser) for interactions with Roll20; the Roll20 app will let you access a character sheet but not the maps. Access to Discord is essential, as we will be playing using Discord audio.

What Shawn (aka Fluffy) brings to the table

Roll20 will have all necessary character sheets, illustrations and maps for the game, and dice are to be rolled through Roll20's RNG system. We will do voice chat via my Live TTRPG Discord, which will be provided to you when you sign up.

Safety

How Shawn (aka Fluffy) creates a safe table

This game has a theme of gothic horror and is set in the 1920s, with that era having very different social norms than modern society, most prominently in terms of treatment of women, POC, and openly LGBTQIA+ characters. These things are, at the very least, not belabored in the game, and can be further addressed through the GM's safety tools. Safety Tools used in the game include the Consent Checklist published by Monte Cook Games (https://www.montecookgames.com/store/product/consent-in-gaming/) as well as a verbal equivalent of the X, N and O safety cards.
