About the adventure

"It's Cainite, not Kindred. We have our own rules, our own laws. Things work differently with us. We know what we are, we know what we're about. It isn't chaos, it's freedom! Here in Rio Rojo, the Sabbat reign supreme. Never forget that. Never ever forget that. You're better off that way." Players are playing Sabbat characters in an established Sabbat Domain. The campaign isn't about a group of shovelheads looking to overthrow the Camarilla next door. You are just Sabbat doing Sabbat things in a Sabbat Domain. Players present at the start of the campaign will be part of an existing pack. Players joining later will need to role-play joining the pack and final acceptance is up to those already in the pack and not the ST. Since this is not a V5 game, the current events of V5 are not applicable. New players can easily join in at any point in the campaign and it doesn't matter what session it is when you sign up, as this is an ongoing long-term campaign. The overall length of this campaign will be based on player interest. As this is a World of Darkness game, there will be mature and dark themes. Any listed warnings/triggers are there just in case and not absolutely guaranteed to pop up. The Storyteller just wants to make sure as many of the bases are covered as possible. One note about the Talk of Superior Race trigger, it is about the Cainite belief that they are superior to mortals and not about one race/ethnicity/nationality being superior to another. There is a zero tolerance policy in place regarding racist talk/rhetoric. Any player who engages in such talk or behavior will be removed from the game and will not be given a refund. This is your only warning.

About me

I have been a player and game master for several games for over 30 years. I have a home-brew background as well as a published TTRPG background. I tend to stick with older games, as I am often not fond of the newer versions. My style is partially scripted and partially off-the-cuff. I tend to be tough, but I always try to be fair. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes. If I make one, let me know and I will rectify it. I have been know to chuck rules I don't like, or at least modify them (and make you know about them up front!) so that they are less unfavorable. I want my players to feel challenged, but still have fun. I prefer role-playing and not roll-playing. I am cool with new players and veterans. I stick to older editions of multiple games mainly because I actually prefer them over the newer editions as opposed to being too cheap to upgrade. That said, I am not above running a game in an edition I am not fond of, but I tend to charge more for it as the trade off.

Character creation

Creating your character

Your character must be completed and approved prior to your first session. All characters are to be neonates (0-99 years of age.) or ancilla (100-299 years of age.). Characters will be created using standard character creation point allocation, however the Sabbat variation of 4 starting Disciplines dots instead of 3, and 0 starting Backgrounds dots instead of the usual 5 is to be used. Give your character 20 Freebie points instead of the normal 15. No specialties. No Iron Will or Unbondable Merits. No Sleeping With the Enemy or Old Flame Flaws. Most Supernatural Merits/Flaws will also be disallowed. Use the Linguistics Knowledge game mechanic instead of the Languages Merit. No more than 3 Dots of Retainers if you take that Background. Lowest Generation is 10th. Highest Willpower is 7. No non-physical Discipline above dot 3. Also, if I can't verify the existence of a merit/flaw/power, it will be vetoed. Your character must be able to function within a team dynamic. No murder hobos or lone wolves. No Blood Brothers, Kiasyd, or Harbingers of Skulls. Remember that your character is part of an existing pack. Don't be a shovelhead. Even though this is a V20 campaign, players are allowed to use the Revised Edition Clanbook for their character's Clan for supplemental character source material.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a working microphone for their participation in the campaign. A webcam is not necessary. If you are new to VTM, I will gladly teach the rules ahead of time. Again, all characters must be completed prior to a player's first session.

What JP McClendon brings to the table

The ST provides blank fillable character sheets upon request. The ST always tries to give each and every named NPC their own voice in one way or another, either through the use of voices or dialogue. Some rules will be strictly adhered to, while others with a gray area are open to interpretation. I will gladly teach the basic rules if necessary. Also, my Discord server has a VTM dice roller if players do not have dice of their own. I am also readily available to assist with any and all character builds. My Discord server also has numerous pages on it regarding the various NPCs present in my game world as well as a section devoted to the PCs.

How JP McClendon creates a safe table

Listed triggers are potential, but not guaranteed to come up. Many are listed simply because this is a VTM game and such topics can be common in this game. Obviously, the ST is not looking to push or trigger any player. Any player is more than welcome to voice concerns ahead of time or in the moment so that the ST knows to gloss over something or avoid it altogether. The intention is for players to have a good time and not be upset by the ST or the game.
