Curse of Strahd: HONOR MODE - Free 1st Session
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Game Hosted on FoundryVTT. đź”°What is 'Honor Mode'?đź”° I use it to refer to the hardest difficulty in Baldur's Gate 3. The story is the same but enemies are tougher, and bosses have new abilities. That's what you'll get here; a Curse of Strahd campaign for players who like a challenge. Unlike BG3's Honor Mode though, if your character does die it's not game over, you can always make a new one and continue on with the party. And make no mistake, just because this campaign will feature intense combat doesn't mean it will lack depth on the RP side of the game. đź”°Why join this campaign?đź”° Maybe you've played the campaign before and want a new experience, maybe you're trying it for the first time but want to feel the tension of combat where character death is a true possibility. You should join this game if you want to have combats as tense and memorable as some of the great RP moments this campaign has to offer đź”°Campaign Featuresđź”° đź“… Weekly sessions spanning levels 2-10 🎠Deep Roleplay, where your choices shape your relationships with the land, its inhabitants and Strahd himself đź’€True dread and horror, challenging your characters to overcome overwhelming odds and rise to their heroic potential đź§Difficult moral dilemmas for your characters to wrestle with ⚔️ Challenging, dynamic combats where character death is a possibility. As your GM I am rooting for you, and I do not see DnD as a GM vs Player game. But know upfront: I will not shy away from killing your character if that's how the dice fall. 🗺️ Highly atmospheric HD maps and scenery, fully animated and with accompanying backing SFX 🛠️ New and tweaked adventure content, including new statblocks for most major boss monsters. 🎓 A DM highly familiar with the rules, with a tonne of experience teaching beginners how to play đź”°Campaign Hookđź”° Amidst the storm-drenched streets of Daggerford on the eve of Highharvesttide, where laughter and song fill warm homes, you find yourselves as outsiders, vagabonds seeking refuge in the cold rain. A hayloft in the rickety Nightmare’s Bridle stable offers scant comfort, the night’s revelry distant and muted. But as lightning splits the sky and mist curls unnaturally around you, the festival’s cheer fades into eerie silence. Drawn into the swirling fog by an unseen force, the town dissolves into shadow, the cobblestones beneath your feet echoing with an otherworldly rhythm. Heartbeats quicken, the air crackles with unseen energy, and as the mist parts, you find yourselves gazing upon a grim and unfamiliar land, its looming, jagged silhouettes heavy with a sense of despair—a foreboding glimpse of the journey to come. đź”°Joining the campaign đź”° Session 0 and 1 are free. Due to StartPlaying's Rules I will need to manually set your game price to $0 for the early sessions after you join the campaign. Player requirements: - Good, clear microphone - Stable internet connection - Minimum PC Specifications: https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/

It has been a great few sessions so far with Barney so far for me and honestly I can see I getting even better as everyone is getting more comfortable. The game really invoked the dark horror-ish vibe really well for me. Personally I feel great about these games and I do look forward to them every week now. If you want something more concrete than a player's personal feeling to decide, I can say this: - He did one of the best session 0 I've seen in a while. The in-game and off game expectations were set clear with visual documents and conversation from all sides - The game runs on Foundry smoothly, and you'd be well-instructed by Barney on how to use it. From the amount and quality of the mods and addons and handouts, you can tell this story was cared for and well-prepped - The story pace is well-kept, he kept the game moving on but also does keep giving prompt for players to jump in in key bits, or even the bits that might not be that key but make sense for a someone to jump in and interact - The combat pace is good too. So far the combat take about 1/3 of total play time. - The rules are followed fairly, with some graces for rules as intended and to new players or players getting use to their PCs.
I've been playing D&D with Barney for 4 years. His campaigns are full of rich world-building and fascinating NPCs. He's great at immersing players in his stories and building tension in spooky settings. Combats are always interesting and well balanced, making for challenging encounters that help drive the story.
Barney has been a great DM for my last 2 campaigns - friendly, inclusive and focused on giving us a tailored experience (allowing for multiple combat encounters or rolling and roleplaying your way out of a sticky situation). Our table includes some people who are very familiar with the game and some who are quite new to it and he is able to balance all of that while giving us an engaging and detailed world to interact with. He's also flexible with roleplaying moments, giving space to talk in character but happy to be more general for those moments or players where performing as your character feels uncomfortable.

How will character creation work
We will be using 2014 content, though if there is a particular piece of 2024 content you are excited about we may be able to include it. We will work together to create your characters during session 0, there will be additional material relevant to your character's backstory and motivations discussed in session 0 so I would advise against writing a character backstory before session 0! Stats will be point buy. Characters will begin at level 2, and a milestone XP system will be used for levelling. Races: A condensed list of races will be provided in session 0 Classes: All official material except for the Peace and Twilight Clerics, and the Chronurgy Wizard are allowed. Spells: Silvery Barbs will be banned. Feats: Setting specific feats (e.g Strixhaven Initiate or Adept of the Black Robes), and the Cartomancer feat will be banned. Backgrounds: Players will be able to create custom backgrounds. I'm happy to explain any of these choices by message or in session 0 :)
