Detroit by Night: Whiskeytown

Detroit by Night: Whiskeytown

Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition | Campaign

About the adventure

Welcome to Detroit, circa 1926. A twisted imp, whose skin is a hellish shade of red, appears at midnight on an empty street, but only for an instant. According to Detroit folklore, the creature is an ill omen, a harbinger of catastrophe—and the city is ripe for a fall. The gilded luxury that once made Detroit “little Paris” is beginning to crumble, giving way to something darker beneath its surface. As Detroit’s Camarilla grows complacent, the Sabbat’s grasp on the city has tightened like a noose. The Sabbat is never far from every bloody bootleg battle, gin-soaked speakeasy, and glistening gala, growing bolder with each advance. Can the Camarilla shake off its fugue before it’s too late? Or is Detroit destined to fall? Step into the gritty, blood-soaked streets of Prohibition-era Detroit, and take sides in the war for the soul of the Motor City. But hurry. The hour’s getting late…

Have played with this Storyteller for enough sessions to get a feel, and I'm super impressed on every level. There is almost no wasted time at our table, sessions are lean but there's a tremendous amount accomplished. I don't mean that we're railroaded or not allowed to have fun with things, I mean that we're artfully kept from spinning our wheels in choice paralysis or overplanning, so we accomplish more in a single two hour session than some other tables I've been on accomplish in multiple longer sessions. It's clear that a tremendous amount of thought goes into their game world, both in terms of lore and in terms of table rules. Great scene-setting, memorable characters, good hooks. If you aren't a fit for the table, you'll both find it out quickly and go your separate ways without hard feelings, like adults. 10/10.

Byrne is a fantastic storyteller! She has an incredible way of weaving what the players say into a cohesive narrative and is a joy to work with. One of my favorite things I have seen in her work so far is how she seems to be genuinely overjoyed for her players success. I look forward to many more sessions with her!

Niamh was incredibly generous of her time in running a webinar for fellow GMs! She is incredibly thorough, kind, and a consummate professional. I am very grateful to be able to benefit from her expertise.

an excellent presentation on how to deal with problem players as a GM. The use of technology was good and the handout with the notes. Able to give a clear list of the type of problem players and methods for dealing with them during a game and out.

The webinar offered valuable insights into managing challenging situations with problem players on StartPlaying. While the session was highly informative, a slightly more concise format could enhance the experience. Overall, it was an enlightening discussion that provided useful perspectives.

Webinar on problem players was immensely helpful and important for every GM that wants to get involved with the craft of GMing and interpersonal interactions during the course of running games!

How to prepare

This game takes place online, so players will need an internet connection, a Discord account, and a Roll20 account. Players will also need a mic; webcams are encouraged, but not required. I also encourage players to familiarize themselves with the character creation rules before Session 0.

What I provide

My GM Style _________________________________________________________________ As a GM, I lean into the gothic horror elements of Vampire the Masquerade and emphasize the moral ambiguity inherent to the IP. Few, if any, SPCs are straightforward victims or villains. Each SPC is a fleshed-out character, as opposed to an exposition dispenser or plot device, complete with bio, visual reference, and voice. I also emphasize inclusivity and diversity in my cast, so a full range of characters are displayed. What's Included? _________________________________________________________________ Players have access to my World of Darkness library, which includes the core book, Camarilla guide, Sabbat guide, Anarch guide, Cult of the Blood Gods, Trails of Ash and Bones, Players Guide, Blood Sigils, and other minor books.

How will character creation work

During Session 0, players will decide on a coterie and character concepts with the assistance of the Storyteller. Players will then build those characters using the Character Creation Guide in the core book. Players joining after Session 0 will be required to submit a concept to the ST before approval.
