How to prepare

Required: Microphone (LAV mic, laptop mic, etc. Any will do, really!) A Roll20 Account (Can be the free version) A willingness to have some fun and step outside of your comfort zone just a little bit Recommended: Webcam D&D Players Handbook 5th Edition Pen & Paper (or word doc for note taking, HP tracking, questions, etc.)

What I provide

We'll be playing on Roll20, an online TTRPG platform where I'll provide all maps and tokens for our sessions. Players are welcome to manage their character sheets however they prefer; for newer players, I offer a Google Sheets option for collaborative review and assistance. Alternatively, players can use tools like D&D Beyond based on their preference. I have a Premium Roll20 account, ensuring features like ambient background music, custom maps, and accurate character lighting. As a DM, I embrace the 'rule of cool' while being well-versed in D&D 5e rules. I encourage players to explore their characters' capabilities and challenge them to think creatively as a team to solve challenges. Players should expect a nice mixture of combat, puzzles, role play and intrigue throughout the campaign unless it is collectively decided by the group during session zero that we would like to lean more heavily in a particular direction. Players will always have the ability to offer feedback to get more out of their time playing, as well. I'll also bring NPCs to life with voices and share artwork of important figures or places when relevant. Players are encouraged to develop detailed backstories, though it's not mandatory. New or undecided players can collaborate with me to explore character options, crafting a character they're excited to play. As my world is homebrewed, players with pre-made characters will collaborate with me to integrate them seamlessly. I strive to be accommodating, ensuring every party enjoys their ideal character-driven experience.

Gameplay details

In my D&D games, I prioritize creating a safe and respectful environment for all players, especially those new to the game. To achieve this, I employ several safety tools: Session Zero: We start with a Session Zero, where we introduce ourselves, discuss expectations, set boundaries, and review safety tools. This session ensures everyone is on the same page and comfortable with the game’s content. Lines and Veils: During the campaign, we use Lines and Veils to define content boundaries. Lines mark topics that are completely off-limits, while Veils allow certain topics to be included but handled with care. X, N, and O Cards: These cards provide a quick, non-verbal way for players to communicate their comfort levels. The X Card stops any content that makes a player uncomfortable, the N Card signals unease but willingness to continue with adjustments, and the O Card reassures that everything is okay. Players will be able to use these cards on camera should they utilize a webcam during play or they can verbally say them. Players can also utilize the Roll20 chat or send me a private message as needed. Regular Breaks: I schedule regular breaks to give everyone a chance to relax, check in, and address any concerns privately if needed. Separate Chat Function: I utilize a separate chat function during play, ensuring players have a method of contacting me if they are uncomfortable or have questions they do not want to ask out loud. Ongoing Adjustment of Lines and Veils: Throughout the campaign, I actively offer opportunities for players to add or adjust their Lines and Veils to ensure a safe and fun environment is always the top priority. Anonymous Surveys: I use anonymous surveys to allow players to offer feedback in a safe and non-judgmental way. Debriefing: After each session, we have a debriefing where we reflect on the game, share feedback, and provide support to ensure everyone feels heard and respected. These tools help create a positive and supportive environment, making my games enjoyable and safe for all participants.

How will character creation work

Character creation is an essential and thrilling start to any D&D campaign, yet it can feel overwhelming, especially for new players. I offer flexible approaches to suit everyone's preferences. Whether you're a seasoned player with a fully formed character or a newcomer unsure where to begin, I'm here to guide you into the world in a way that excites you. For veterans with a character in mind, I'll meet with you before session zero to delve into your character's background and fit them into my world. This discussion ensures we start on a foundation that ignites your enthusiasm. New players will find a welcoming environment as we use a tailored questionnaire to explore character ideas step-by-step. Together, we'll make character creation enjoyable and manageable with engaging prompts. Our campaign starts at level 3, and I typically use the "Roll 4d6, drop the lowest, reroll 1's" method for stats. However, I'm open to discussing alternatives like standard array to accommodate preferences. You can keep your character sheet on any platform you prefer. D&D Beyond and a custom Google Sheet form are popular choices—both streamline the process and adapt well to my homebrew setting. I'll assist in getting your sheet ready before we begin. While having the Player's Handbook handy is helpful for reference, it's not mandatory. I have access to all necessary supplementary materials and am eager to share them with any party member who needs them.
