About the adventure

Come playtest James' new space-fantasy adventure game "Cosmic Century Knights" inspired by Shonen anime. In this two-shot, you and your fellow players will create knights, swords, antagonists, and a world in your first session. Then James will run a full adventure for you in the next session. This game involves worldbuilding and setting agency for players as well as in-character play! "300 years ago… a massive blade descended from the heavens and pierced the world. Embedded within it were 100 legendary blades, each with unique blessings that grant the wielder incredible power. Folk who claim blades for themselves gain the title of knight. They are respected, needed, and feared all over the world. Players take the role of adventurers who have been accepted by one of the 100 legendary Century Blades as a Knight. " These playtests develop the system and help James make ends meet during a bad time.

James helped me to really refine my world-building and flesh out complex antagonists with understandable motivations. He also helped me to intertwine antagonist plots so that I have many threads to pull on regardless of which bits the players latch onto. James's help was especially valuable since all the people I would normally bounce ideas off of are players in my game. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone who wants a fresh set of eyes with a catalog of ideas to make a good game even better. James was able to give me GM coaching so I can tailor my game to each player, keep mechanics engaging, and have a story paced for the number of sessions I intend to run.

This fellow runs an excellent game. No one I know is better at knowing when the rules matter and when they need to be set aside for a moment. He's attentive and puts a ton of work into what he does.

An absolutely unbeatable person to play with!! James is so funny, so charming, and so collaborative - he'll always be looking for those perfect moments to give each person at the table while also telling the best story possible together. And James is an absolute master at balancing the goofy times with those sincere moments - you would be so lucky to play at his table!!

James is a great improvisational GM that I feel glad I've gotten to play games with in the past. He's knowledgeable about the rules, but plays to the Rule of Cool and kept our game moving at a great pace. He's also got hundreds of hours of example play on the Oneshot podcast if you're not sure if he's the right fit for you.

James is funny, dramatic, and in control without taking all the spotlight. If you want to feel like a real character who matters in a real story, James is your guy.

James has a curiosity and enthusiasm about a wide range of systems, and runs them with an amazing combination of mastery, humor, and humility.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character and world creation is a fun and mechanically supported part of the game. You will pick traits based on random roles, answer open-ended questions to solidify your characters, and roll for the blessings on your blades. World creation involves collaborative pick-lists, priority assignments, open questions, and ability selection. Making your characters and the world will likely fill a whole session, but I promise it rules.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You'll need a mic and headphones at least. Webcams are preferred because they help people communicate based on non-verbal queues, but they are not required. The only thing you need to bring to the table is some enthusiasm and creativity!

What James D'Amato brings to the table

I will have all the game materials we need to make characters and play. Those will be shared with you on the day. You will need access to a standard polyhedral set: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d%. Electronic rollers are also fine.

Safety
How James D'Amato creates a safe table

We'll do an open lines/veils for session zero. That will frame what we create. We will couple it with X Card during 0 and 1 to cover anything we forgot or anything that emerges. This is supposed to be fun and I don't want it to be anything but fun for folks who participate.
