About the adventure

'A company of dwarves have come down from the North. They've come down to chase a rumor their leader has uncovered. A rumor revealing the location of a secret. A secret to a hidden treasure forgotten in the pages of history. A treasure so powerful that every lord and dragon in the realm may be willing to risk everything to acquire it. Fortunately for the dwarves, they hired a band of adventurers to help them out. That's where you come in...' A perfect introductory campaign for The World's Most Popular Roleplaying Game; I've run Lost Mines of Phandelver, from the 5E Starter Set, successfully several times now. I know it's good time for players of all types. The content from the Dragon of Icespire Peak adventure, from the Essentials Kit, adds a lot more to fill out the campaign without taking away from what's already there. Regardless of whether or not you are new to D&D and want to learn what the game is about or you've played before and really enjoy the feeling of fighting monsters on the road and in dungeons, look no further because that's what you'll find here. A solid campaign that goes from level one (1) to level five (5) in about twenty (20) sessions, with more content easily doubling the number of sessions and extending the 'level cap' to ten (10) or even higher! If this sounds interesting to you, then sign up! I look forward to running a fun game with you. The kind that leaves you with a great story to tell others whenever they ask you if you've played D&D before!

About me

I have a lot of experience with this hobby, specifically as a GM, since I've been running games about as long as I've been invested in the hobby. I've also been consistently at it long enough to see the shift from one edition to another more then once. I'm as comfortable inside corporate towers in a cyberpunk setting as I am in the dark dungeons of a fantasy one. The deepness of space is familiar to me regardless if viewed from a ships window or through an eldritch portal. If you have a game idea, reach out to me, and I'll see what I can do to work with you to tell an amazing story whilst we play a great game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will be handled as part of Session 0 as a group. We will go through the process step by step together after a small discussion about what kind of game this is and what kind of characters the players would like to play. I will be helping at each step in the process and guiding you through it. If a player joins after Session 0, I will work with them during some time in-between sessions to help ensure they are ready to go by next session with the least amount of trouble. If any issues arise with characters during play, I will work with you to implement changes, up to and including reworking the character or creating a new one that more closely resembles your expectations for what you want to engage with.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Outside of game time you will only require access to Discord with an account in order to organize and discuss with myself and other players via text in between sessions. Inside of game time you will require a microphone and it is recommended you have access to Discord via the Application for quick voice communication with myself and the other players. You will also require a more mainline web browser (Chrome or Firefox suggested) in order to access the game and content during play.

What Erin "Erran" Wendland brings to the table

I will be providing maps and other visual aids like tokens and charts during gameplay. I will also be providing access to books via pdf's and similar means where possible. I will not be providing access via D&D Beyond, but I do not discourage other people from using it.

Safety

How Erin "Erran" Wendland creates a safe table

Lost Mines of Phandelver begins at level 1, and runs to level 5. There is more content extending things to level 10 at least, if the group wishes to continue to play at that point. This will be a weekly game, which is to say you can expect a session once every week, with as much advanced notice as I can manage whenever a session will not be taking place. The first session will be Session 0. We will use this time to introduce ourselves, measure player familiarity, manage player expectations, and answer any initial questions anyone may have. The session will end with character creation so we can be ready to play the next time we meet in Session 1. Each session will end with a period of review where I hear comments and answer questions from the players. Players are encouraged to use this time to tell me about things they enjoyed or inform me of any problems that have arisen. This way we can hone in on our best game that everyone will enjoy. I will be available outside of sessions to answer questions whenever you have them via Discord.
