About the adventure

As crew members aboard the Wandering Hag, life isn't perfect, but it's pretty close. You get to travel the world, pick fights with the law, and drink lots of rum. Who cares about the strange contract you had to sign when you joined the crew? A pirate's life is the life for you. At least, it is until your captain mysteriously vanishes right in front of your eyes. Now, you and your crew mates, bound by the contracts you signed, find yourselves tasked with finding the captain and devising a way to bring her back to the ship- with her life and yours on the line. While players of any level are welcome, this campaign is intended to introduce new players to DND and give them the opportunity to play as pirates sailing across the ocean in a homebrew world. Perfect for those looking for a character-focused story full of roleplay, action, and exploration.

About me

As a heavy silence fills the room, you examine the choices laid before you. Your heart begins to race with the certainty that, after this selection, endless adventure awaits. Hello, and welcome! I am Alice (they/them), and in the 8 years that I have been DMing, I have gotten to lead players across a variety of worlds, from the stormy seas and monstrous caves of DND to the non-stop chaos of Cyberpunk's Night City. As a long-time DM and professional folklorist, I love collaborating with my players to tell epic, action-packed stories with lots of opportunity for roleplay and adventure.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will build characters together during our session zero, either in D&D Beyond or another digital option approved by me. We will be using the 2014 rules for this campaign rather than the 2024 edition. Since we will do this together, we can talk about what character building restrictions work best for you as a player and the character you are trying to build.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have a Discord account and a microphone. A webcam is recommended but not required. Players do not need to make any purchases or do any research in advance. We will create characters and go over rules together in our session zero.

What Alice brings to the table

We will play using Discord, and players will have the choice of using D&D Beyond or another digital character sheet option provided by me. As a DM, my focus is on collaborating with my players to tell an epic story. That means lots of roleplay, dramatic music, customized visuals, and crazy voices on my end so that you have endless opportunities to explore your character and the world around them. While I am happy to teach players the rules/mechanics of DND, I am even happier to bend or break them for a good reason. Since I put overall story and player experience first, I absolutely embrace Rule of Cool!

Safety

How Alice creates a safe table

We will go over safety tools during our session zero so that all players are on the same page. During this time I will explain Lines and Veils, a tool that lets myself and players indicate topics and other things that should be excluded or limited in our game. I will also explain other tools, including my open-door policy, breaks, and consent form.
