About the adventure

This is an in-progress campaign: We've had an opening and are looking for another awesome player to join us! No experience necessary, I'll meet with you before the game and help you build a character, show you the system we are using, and answer all your questions! Ready to take your first exciting (and maybe dangerous) steps into the world of Dungeons and Dragons? Or perhaps you are a seasoned player in other editions and are now ready to try out the 5th edition? Then this game is for you! Open to all experience levels, and catering to new players, this campaign is designed to give you a great introduction to the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition system with an adventure that will take you from 5th level to ...? level (or higher!). There are plenty of side quests to keep things exciting and to test you in various ways! A session 0 will be free for any player and we can use that time to work on characters, go over rules and expectations, and I will be asking you to fill out a safety tools form (anonymously) so I know where the boundaries are! Feel free to ask all your questions here, but don't worry if you forget something, I will provide you with my contact info so you can always reach out to me anytime! I will be using Discord to run voice chat and we will be using Roll20 for playing the actual game. I will run a brief encounter during Session 0 for anyone who isn't familiar with the program so you can try it out and get to know it better! Currently we have a group of mostly new players to D&D who have already played through one short campaign of Lost Mine of Phandelver, and now they head off towards their next big adventure!

About me

Looking to teach players new game systems! I currently run The Midnight Tavern - Your Friendly Online Game Store! Looking to build an online gaming community around roleplaying games, and eventually open my own brick-n-mortar gaming tavern here on Long Island! Been playing RPGs since the 90s, and I don't see that ending anytime soon! I also do a lot of magic items, plot ideas, GM/DM advice over on Tik Tok!

Character creation

Creating your character

Session 0 will be used to create characters. I can assist anyone who needs help, otherwise I will leave it up to the player's to make their characters. The only part that needs to be done as a group is stats - I use roll-four-drop-one method, and each player can do this twice and use the best stat set. I just like to make sure its done in the open to prevent any issues.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

If you are completely new (or even if not) just come with an idea of what kind of character you would like to play! It's easiest if you think of one or more characters you know from books, TV, movies, games, etc as the basis for your character and then tweak that idea around until you have something you like! Also, come to Session 0 with your questions! It can help to write them down as you think of them so you are ready to go when you show up!

What The Midnight Tavern brings to the table

In roll 20 I have access to the following books, which means you will have access to the information, classes, backgrounds, and more in it as well: Player's Handbook Monster Manual Dungeon Master's Guide Lost Mine of Phandelver Essentials Kit Dragon Heist Curse of Strahd Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft Xanathar's Guide to Everything Tasha's Cauldron of Everything If other books are needed I may be able to pick them up as well.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion as a full action gives max benefit. Drinking a potion as a bonus action requires you to roll for health. Flanking gives advantage.

Safety

How The Midnight Tavern creates a safe table

At Session 0 I will be providing a link for everyone to be able to fill out a consent form. This will be based primarily on Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist. This allows me to make sure any particular topics, triggers, or events happen in game. That being said, as a DM, I also have boundaries and these will be discussed during the Session 0 as well.
