About the adventure
Join the crew of the recently refitted USS Odysseus (NCC 26278), a Miranda-class Light Cruiser reborn as a Crisis and Emergency Response vessel. Outfitted with state-of-the-art medical labs, isolation suites, an advanced trauma ward, high-capacity evacuation transporters, and a fleet of shuttles, the Odysseus is ready to face any challenge on the frontier. With a complement of 48 officers, 278 enlisted staff, 72 flight and maintenance crew, and 78 medical personnel, the Odysseus embarks on vital missions: delivering humanitarian aid, providing medical support to remote Federation outposts, advancing bioscience research, aiding fledgling colonies, representing the Federation in diplomacy, and serving as a hospital ship and troop transport when conflict calls. ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐น๐ฒ Set in late 2286, during the Movie Era of Star Trek - so characters will wear the maroon movie uniforms. This campaign will remain true to the progressive values of Star Trek, exploring themes of cooperation, diversity, and hope for a better future. The tone will be optimistic yet nuanced, with moral dilemmas and shades of grey that challenge players to make decisions in line with Starfleetโs ideals. Exploration and diplomacy will take centre stage, with missions that focus on scientific discovery, first contact, and humanitarian aid. That doesn't mean there will be no combat, but it is rarely the optimal solution. ๐ช๐ต๐ผ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ? This game is open to both newcomers and seasoned Trekkies! Whether youโre a fan of The Original Series, The Next Generation, or the latest Star Trek adventures, youโll feel at home aboard the USS Odysseus. How to prepare

While Iโm relatively new to Star Trek Adventures 2e, I bring decades of experience crafting engaging, character-driven stories. The STA 2e rules don't provide a lot of scope for mechanical character growth, so this campaign will focus on character growth through relationships, experiences, and learning from the moral dilemmas the crew faces. Inspired by Star Trek (TOS and the original cast movies), M.A.S.H., and Chicago Hope, the game blends optimism, diplomacy, exploration, and the feel of a medical drama. Thereโs even a touch of John le Carrรฉ spy intrigue, reflecting the Cold War-like tensions of the setting. While dark themes such as war, oppression, and prejudice will appear, the core theme is hopeโthe crewโs ability to make a difference, even in challenging times. ๐ฅ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต The Star Trek Adventures 2e rules are light, and Iโll follow them as written, but I embrace the Rule of Cool when it serves the story or enhances player creativity. This is especially true for moments of heroism, diplomacy, or innovative uses of technology.

During session zero, Ill cover the safety tools, and we'll have an open and honest discussion around the expectations of both player and GM behaviour, with a strong emphasis on Wheatonโs Law: โDonโt be a dick.โ

How will character creation work
We will go over character creation together during Session 0. After Session Zero, each player will be responsible for completing their characters using the STAR TREK Adventures Character Creator (https://sta.bcholmes.org/) and sending me the characterโs JSON file via email prior to the first session. Iโll import the completed characters into Foundry VTT for gameplay. I'll ask each player to create two characters: โข A character who plays a key role in starship combat. โข A character who is either part of the medical staff, offers a key skill for away missions (e.g., shuttle pilot, security officer, geologist) or who fills an important non-command role on the ship (e.g., cook, quartermaster, chaplain). And then pick one of the two as their main character. Usually you'll get to play your main character because whichever you choose as your main, However I also want to ensure that during ship to ship combat everyone should have something to do. It also reduces downtime in the event of character death.
