About the adventure

If you have never tried Play by Post before and want to give it a brief shot, or just want to sign up for a game without obligating yourself to a long campaign, this is perfect for you. In Play-by-Post, players use prose to describe their actions post by post, responding to eachother as their characters would. It is a great format for those with busy or inconsistent schedules, as the expectation is that players will post as expected, and the Avrae discord bot makes it convenient to track stats and initiative. 'A Most Potent Brew' is a 1st level adventure where your character bravely delves into their first dungeon - the basement beneath a brewery. It's a problem familiar to all rookie adventurers: exterminating giant rats. But how did the rats below the Wizard Tower brewery get so big, and could even deadlier things lurk below?

Hello!! I'm Duckling! I'm a 24 year old writer with a lot of free time and TTRPG experience on my hands. I love roleplaying and exploring immersive worlds. I started playing DND 5e when it was being playtested in 2012 and I've pretty much been stuck on tabletop games ever since. I'll be running Play by Post DND and occasional rules-lite games, hopefully resulting in unforgettable experiences for myself and my players! I'm very excited!

Creating your character
Players may use 2014 or 2024 classes. Players may use 2014 backgrounds with a bonus feat or a 2024 background with the feat replaced with one of your choice. Matt Mercer content including Gunslinger and Blood Hunter is allowed. I will be using the most up-to-date 2024 content for rulings, including monsters, spells, equipment, etc. Homebrew or UA is not allowed.

Preparing for the session
For my games, you will need: 1. A Discord account and a DNDBeyond account 2. Adventure in your heart and bravery in your soul 3. General availability That's pretty much it!
What Ugly Duckling brings to the table
I will provide a DND Beyond campaign for content, battle maps will be done through DNDBeyond, I will use credited artwork for NPCs and general mood, I personally do not use AI generation. Length of posts will depend on context and how long players seem to prefer. Some periods will be active while some will be slow, this is just the nature of play by post. I will moderate the pace of the game to make sure no one is hogging the spotlight or falling behind.
