About the adventure

New York is the beating heart of blood & greed for the kindred of the 1980s. Ruled by a Prince known as The Duke of New York, the five boroughs have firmly remained in the hands of the Invictus for over a century. The various clans & covenants machinate in the darkness of alleyways, night clubs, & the seedy underbelly of the Big Apple. This is the decade of greed, & with that comes unprecedented changes for kindred society. The rise of new technologies, forensic techniques amongst police, & the HIV epidemic have thrown the All Night Society into a tail spin. Elders & established kindred are uncertain as to how to handle these shifts in modern times, some overreacting to the sudden surge of vampires in pop culture. Others are embracing these changes, & in the midst of all this chaos is you. You are a neonate, a newly embraced vampire of the "me" generation. Born in a world on the brink of nuclear war, but now with a ravening beast in your heart & a thirst for blood. Your up against countless threats on all sides. Elders trigger happy to declare blood hunts, domain rulers who hold onto their little kingdoms with an iron fist, & even darker monsters then vampires that lurk in the shadows of this sprawling city. The few allies you have are all that is keeping your requiem secure. But if your coterie doesnt start carving out your own piece of the Empire of Blood, your going to end up on the chopping block for the bigger badder predators in town.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Party notes

New Players that join after the campaign has started will be required to attend an onboarding session outside of the normal schedule to create a character appropriate for the group & setting. This onboarding session is charged.

How to prepare

A discord account with quality microphone that allows for clear communication without undue background noise & a stable internet connection. Those who are operating on mobile hot spots will not be fast enough to stay connected with foundry. A PC that can meet the requirements to run Foundry Virtual Tabletop. Familiarity with the Vampire the Requiem 2nd Edition rules is good but not required, as I will be supplying reference material via foundry for all the basic rules. A willingness to learn the setting & the various factions within this game is a must though, as vampire is at its core a political game of chess between monsters.

What I provide

I will be supplying the Foundry VTT for use with our game, with all the basic rules of Chronicles of Darkness input into it. Full custom graphics & NPC interfaces I've programed for it specifically for use with Vampire the Requiem. The game world will consist of a "region map" of new york city as a whole, & individual "domain maps" that will mark out territories & information for players.

Gameplay details

The players will create newly embraced vampires that live in new york city in the early 1980s. Together they will work together for their mutual benefit & survival against the varied threats that they face within the sprawling metropolis. Characters will dive into the personal horror & trauma of what it means to be a vampire in one of the biggest cities on earth. Characters concepts must be grounded in being local new york residents who have been embraced & taught by a member of the vampire court of new york. Concepts that will not be allowed are the following. - Military/ex military style characters - "Abandoned" loners with no sire or connections to their human life - Serial Killers or sociopathic characters - Dhampirs, ghouls & other non vampire subtypes. Additionally tropes from other vampire games such as masquerade will not be allowed. (example, no "crazy malkavian" style characters) A large part of the campaigns focus at first will be to the neonate years & the 80s era, but over time we will progress slowly into the 90s, 2000s & all the way to modern day as anchillae. This game will also include a blending of lore from Requiem 1e, & the strix will not be present as main antagonists. Other vampires(Elders, belials brood, VII), other supernaturals & vampire hunters will be a bigger focus as antagonists. Most sessions will be a mixture of investigation, role playing & combat depending on where the current plot line is going. Combat is also very dangerous & realistic, so characters becoming injured or close to death isnt impossible. We will be utilizing the territory & domain systems in damnation city for this chronicle, to represent the areas the player characters can take control of. This game will operate in theatre of the mind, but we will be utilizing a high quality maps & graphics I've built via foundry VTT. Sexual content will always fade to black if it occurs, & will never occur between player characters unless all involved players consent. Lines & veils will also be honored & set up ahead of the chronicle via discord chat, so that I can fine tune any plot content to avoid things players may not want to face in game. Additionally, I am always online via my discord both during & outside of game should you need to bring something to my attention, whether thats a veil thats being approached too close or something makes you uncomfortable.

How will character creation work

Character generation will occur during a zero session with everyone present. This is as much to make sure we all mesh as a group of people as it is to make the characters, backgrounds & get everyones equipment setup. We will also discuss lines & veils for the game(please Private message me ahead of time if your uncomfortable with expressing these in a live chat). For those that join later, a one on one onboarding session will be scheduled outside of the normal game time to make you a character. Afterwards communication & further background info will be conducted with everyone via a discord channel on the server I use. No character's will be approved prior to the zero session. This includes pre-generated characters, & all players will be required to meet the same character creation expectations of the table, which may vary from group to group.
