The Watchtower ~ An SCP Horror One-Shot
About the adventure
Two children have vanished from a dark forest village. With night setting in and time running out, are you brave enough to find them in the deep, dark wood? This is an adaptation of my favorite SCP short story, SCP-3333. A Level 3 one-shot open to players both new and experienced! Expect chilling encounters, extra-dimensional weirdness, and a dark descent into the uncanny valley. Gameplay will involve some light hunting/tracking mechanics, a little roleplay, and some fun investigation scenes and combat! This is a horror one-shot, but levels of description and detail for violence are fully adjustable based on the preferences of the player group! Designed for 3-6 players.

About me
Hi! I'm Sam. I run spooky adventures in D&D 5e, Call of Cthulhu, and Fallout RPG. I started running games in 2019, and developed a play style inspired by Doctor Who, Fallout, the SCP Foundation, and classic horror movies. I like to homebrew original campaign settings and put exciting twists on existing modules. If you like thrilling adventures, high octane combat, and chilling scares, come play a session! I run games accessible to all ages and experience levels.

Character creation
Creating your character
Players can bring a pre-existing character to the table, or create a new character for this session. I'm also happy to set up a Discord call for character creation in advance of the session for whoever needs or wants it! Homebrew races and classes are A-OK, so long as they aren't totally broken. Just let me know in advance. The only other restriction is that your character must have at least one (1) negative modifier. It is a Horror game, after all.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You don't need a professional mic, so long as I can hear you on a Discord call. Cameras preferred but totally optional! Discord and Owlbear Rodeo are both free to use and easy to set up. Let me know your experience level in advance. I've run this one-shot for veterans and brand new players in the past.
What Sam the DM brings to the table
This game features a custom battle map hosted on Owlbear Rodeo, a haunting playlist of creepy ambient music, and some light survival mechanics for navigating the daunting forest. There are several potential encounters that players can choose to resolve through diplomacy, fast-paced combat, or by simply fleeing in intense chase sequences. Typically, I stick to Rules-as-Written D&D, with some notable home rules that accentuate Nat 20 rolls, and make critical hits especially lethal. Open to the use of homebrew races and classes, so long as I have the opportunity to check over the material first.

How Sam the DM creates a safe table
Prior to the game, players will receive the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, and the session will be altered as needed to accommodate their response. Players are also welcome to flag specific content mid-session if they feel uncomfortable or upset by the material, and alterations can be made on the fly.
