About the adventure

Nestled in the heart of England, the historic city of Bath may seem like a quaint, picturesque destination known for its Roman baths and Georgian architecture, but beneath its charming facade lies a thriving World of Darkness. For centuries, this city has been a hub of supernatural activity, its ancient streets hiding secrets older than the stones themselves. Now, under the rule of Prince Katalina Drake Sato, Bath's Camarilla Council maintains a fragile balance of power. The Toreador Prince is a force to be reckoned with, wielding control with a velvet glove and iron fist, while the Council—composed of influential Kindred from the city's clans—ensures that order is maintained, though always at the edge of chaos. Beyond the Camarilla's control, however, other factions vie for dominance. The Anarchs, emboldened by recent victories, have carved out their territory in Weston, ever seeking to undermine the Prince’s authority. The shadowy Killyan Syndicate, led by the enigmatic Gargoyles, controls the criminal underworld, working from the shadows of Newbridge. The ancient House of Pikes, rumoured to have deep ties to Bath’s mystical history, watches from the eerie corners of Lambridge. And as always, the Sabbat lurks in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. In this city where loyalties are bought with blood and power comes at a deadly price, who will rise to the top, and who will be lost to the darkness? But as the Kindred of Bath settle into their uneasy peace, something sinister stirs beneath the surface. A string of unexplained disappearances has begun to unsettle the city’s factions, with Kindred and ghouls vanishing without a trace. What at first seemed like power plays or rival attacks may be masking a much darker threat, tied to the city's ancient past. As the nights grow longer, our Coterie must navigate a web of political intrigue while unravelling a deeper, more dangerous mystery—one that may change the face of Bath forever. --- Set to be hosted Biweekly.. This is a Homebrew Vampire The Masquerade V5 Chronicle set in Bath, Somerset. Your Coterie has been tasked by the Ventrue Primogen to investigate a disappearance within the Camarilla. However, outside forces will, for reasons of their own, act against this and you. Do what you can to come out on top but be warned... the price may be steep for your choices.

About me

Hello, one and all! I'm what many would call an enigma based on description alone. I grew up with sports and nothing close to nerd culture, then high school hit me with theatre classes, drama classes, nerd culture, anime, and of course, tabletop games! From there, I shed my class clown sports kid demeanor for an aptitude and love for everything listed above! It's been years since then, but I quickly fell into a type of comfort I haven't been willing to let go of! From world-building, homebrew creations, storytelling, writing, and interacting with others in these worlds. I've been a player in many different tabletop roleplaying games, and I've been DM'ing D&D 5e for cutting close to a decade now. Thanks to the support, advice, and assistance of those in my life, I've decided to take the plunge into DM'ing on Startplaying! My Dm style is closer to a mix of improv, and strategy and geared towards employing a story with all those involved. Most of my history with anything tabletop has been homebrew content, with my latest foray being for a homebrew world I've been working on for about... 5 years? It's had some reboots, but it's my little passion project that's stayed strong with me all these years! As for the types of players I've had before, well this is where I've had most of my enjoyment! I've been lucky enough to be some people's first intro into the hobby, letting them experience wonders and joy from being the person they want to be without fear of judgment in a space they can feel comfortable in. I've also had chances to run with people who played D&D back when it first came out in 1974 (Which, mind you, they have been some of the craziest and most enjoyable people I've had the pleasure of playing with). I've always seen Tabletop Roleplaying games as a way for people to get a chance to enjoy themselves in whatever weird or quirky way they can. Something that can be enjoyed by all ages, races, identities, and people from many different walks of life! If the stars align, I may even get the chance to be your introduction to the hobby or your gateway to jumping back into it!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen both prior to, and at the time of Session 0. Players are free to imagine their character and personality prior to their Embrace and also work with the entire group at the time of session 0 to ensure that each character is able to feel unique, welcome, and still diverse in their Coterie. The Characters will all start off as Neonates. They can either be natives to Bath or newcomers to the city who wound up with this Coterie for ensured survival or otherwise. All V5 Clans will be available for use, Along with a homebrew Clan Gargoyle! I would request that when you are thinking of a Character Concept, you think of a Human first and a Kindred second. This is more to reflect the fact that your characters have more of a tie to their mortal life still rather than being deeply connected to their Kindred life (and to ensure that we don't have one note "I'm a noble asshole" Coterie members).

The current party

This will be a game starting you off as Neonates, no Clans are off limits and for this Chronicle, I'm allowing the Gargoyle Clan as well!

What Joshua (or Xenix) brings to the table

Hey Future Players! I'll be hosting via Foundry Virtual Tabletop (or Foundry VTT), as such I'll be able to provide atmospheric music, backdrop scene maps with certain effects to help set the mood, and a confident amount of knowledge regarding The World of Darkness. I have also ported over all of the latest (As of 2024) VTM V5 Disciplines, Loresheets, and more into Foundry for use during the Story! Lastly, I bring a friendly and welcoming attitude to every table I host, to ensure that everyone can feel welcome, and comfortable while at my table! Regarding my Storytelling Style for VTM V5, I tend to employ (to the best of my capabilities) an ever-moving world. Meaning that you may not be the only active force within the world that has the potential to make things happen. I also like to employ the Rule of Cool more than Rules as Written, mainly since... well VTM V5 Corebook is kind of poorly written and has to be read between the lines to make sense of certain rules. All of this is to help everyone at the table have a smoother experience going through the motions and have their actions feel like they have an impact! Oh, I also welcome player creativity towards unique roll combos as well as having the players take part in the storytelling process over their own actions, describing what happens in certain scenes from their viewpoint and potentially even subtle hints towards your character psyche from a narrative standpoint! Honestly, I view this as a collaborative Storytelling Game, where each player is able to help the story move along in their own way!

How Joshua (or Xenix) creates a safe table

While at my Table, players can expect to start off with a Consent Checklist (Which is required to be completed prior to your first session) and a Session 0 which will go over Group Introduction, the baseline of the plot of this Story, any expectations about the Story players may have, questions you may have for me about anything really, the Rules and Baselines for the Table (to ensure a safe and comfortable place for everyone to play) and lastly character creation!
